I cannot build anymore wonder in the game. When built, the wonder movie freezes the game in a way that the only thing I am able to do is to close and load my last save.
Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone got a solution or is that another bug?

Cheers mate!

I've got a similar problem. The wonders usually work fine for me, but I have a particular case where it becomes nearly frozen and unplayable. Here are the circumstances:

- I reload an autosave where the very next turn one of my world wonders is about to be built.
- When I end my turn, and the time comes for the wonder to be built, the movie window for the wonder comes up, but it is blank. The sound becomes extremely garbled as if it's trying to play the movie. I can move the mouse around, but it's as if it's frozen otherwise.
- I can still ctrl+alt+del out, and I can see that it's taking a bunch of ram, and I can shut it down though it takes about 30 seconds from the time I issue the command.
- This bug is repeatable. I am using the 1.52 patch and latest everything.

just find the wonder movies folder and cut the folder out...problem solved!

Brilliant! :D that's about as good as what the manufacturers told my dad about his cell phone. It has a touch screen that is very sensitive, and there is a button that cuts the call if you accidently touch it.
"How can I disable it?" he asked.
"Oh, you're putting the phone up to your ear? You can't put the phone up to your ear."

umm... last time I checked, that kind of goes against the basic design of phones...

With further testing I found another repeatable condition:
- The above only happens when I have the screen zoomed out to just before the globe clouds come on. If I leave it at the default zoom level, the movie loads after the end of turn just fine.

@Hristo, there's no need to do that. Just open the Civ 4.ini config file and change "nomovies" from 0 to 1 if you want to turn them off.

After playing some more, I've found that the wonder will always freeze if I've ever zoomed in or out.

The best fix so far is to save just before the wonder will be built (I think autosave always does anyway), and avoid zooming in or out when you reload.

Ive had this exact problem - the only way to deal with it is to turn off the wonder movies (but its taken me the last four frustrtating months to work this out!!)

If ANYONE know a proper solution - i.e. Id love to know how to WATCH the wonder movies (they were always a favourite part of Civ 2) I'd love to know thoughts.

I figure its something to do with the graphics card... but im no expert.

I'm running Civ on a compaq presario laptop, 3Ghz, with loads of RAM, and its a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9100 graphics card, which i think is the problem - but i dont know how to fix it. Ive downloaded the latest drivers.

anyone any ideas, or also suffering?

Better yet, look for the ini setting that allows you to turn the movies off. You can also turn off the tech popups if you like.

Guess I'm kinda luckier than u guys.. My wonder movies still play w/o the crashes but it is extremely choppy.. Like 1-2 fps.. Strangely though the rest of the music plays well enough.. Using a 1.7 Ghz computer and an ATI Radeon 9800.. Hmm.. Anyone else experience the same as me? Wish they could fix it.. Love the movies I do! =P

There's some known issues with the movies. They'll probably be fixed in the next patch.

I sure hope so, cause now I just click ok and move on with the game. But I would love to watch them.
My problem is the same as nRevan, it plays but choppy and I am not that patient to watch it that way. It is not only the Wonder Movie but it is the start up screen as well. mmmm Maybe next patch.
