I can't believe there is a thread for designing your own civilization, but none for wonders. So I'm opening one and see if it gets traction.
Wonder: the ocean cleanup
description: the ocean cleanup is an ongoing project to rid the oceans of plastics. it entails 100 km long funnel-shaped floating barriers placed on the course of major oceanic currents that would catch and concentrate plastic to the point where recovery could become economically feasible. the project is currently in the "trial model" phase. If all goes as hoped, the first barrier could be deployed in five years, and reduce the great pacific garbage patch by 40% in the next decade.
requirements: plastic and online communities
placement: must be built on ocean by a city with a shipyard, occupies two tiles.
effect: +2 appeal on coast tiles for everyone. bonus to diplomatic relations with everyone, depending on how many coast cities they own, and doubled for leaders with the environmentalist agenda. Will be listed as "you fight pollution for everyone". +1 gold per turn for every 20 units of population living in cities within 3 tiles of the coast (profit from recycling all that plastic)
fluff: I often complain how all you get past the modern age are new military units. there are just so many modern wonders that I would like to build...
Natural Wonder: archipelago sea
description: the archipelago sea is the largest archipelago in the world by number of islands, wiith most of them ranging in size from a football field to a square kilometer. the main islands are inhabited, but most aren't, making the place a paradise for conservation, wildlife and sealife. Its strategic location at the mouth of the gulf of finland also makes it important in case of war.
yields and characteristics: Spawns at mid-high latitudes, along the coast. 4 tile natural wonder, yield 2 food, 2 cogs, 2 gold (the sum of coast and forest plains). Its unique characteristic is that it counts as both coast and water. It is passable by both land and sea units. for defence bonus, land movement cost and district adjacency purposes, each tile counts as forest plain completely surrounded by rivers. passing it with ships costs two movements, but ships share defence bonus too. You cannot build cities, districts or improvements over it, but you can build harbors off its coast.
fluff: I like the idea of an archipelago where land and water are so intermingled you can move both ships and land units on it.
