I am new to the Civ world and am having trouble completing Wonders. I like being the Romans but as the Art of War, BAch's Cathedral, or Newtons Workshop near completion, a message says production cannot be completed and is switched to an improvement. AM i missing something easy?

This is because another civ took the lead in the completion of that wonder and completed it before you... can become really anoying sometime

That's another thing about Civ III I don't like. You get no warning if another Civ is nearing completion of a Wonder, but you have no way of rushing completion of a Wonder anyway - unless you sell all your improvements which is not wise.

Nothing like seeing hundreds of shields go down the drain when another Civ beats you to a Wonder.

its frustrating, but its nothing to get mad over.

what do you want, constant surveillance on all aspects of the computer opponents? why not just let you control hte computer opponents so they can never get the advantage over you!

We were shocked when the USSR detonated a nuke, shocked to discover missiles being set up in Cuba. Sometimes intelligence fails -- you can't know everything about hte enemy. Give the computer a chance man.

First of all, you always know what cities are building each wonder from the F7 screen (unless you didn't meet that civ yet). And you always get a warning when a civ is starting to build their wonder. As time elapses, you can spend some small dough to investigate the cities that are building the wonder to see if it's possible for them to beat you. And then you can reload the game so you don't lose the money. :)

This hapenned to me in my last game -- my city was about to complete the wonder in 4 turns, so I spied on AI cities and someone else was about to do it in 3. So I moved around my workers off grasslands and into mountains, reducing my build time to 3 and letting the city lose soem food for these 3 turns. Worked like a charm.

I agree, thats a valid way to take care of it...but I dont think cerberus seems like the type to go through all that trouble and do all that strategic planning -- he just wants to win every time and have all computer information handed to him each and every turn.

In that case, play on Chieftan. My first game on Chieftan I built every single wonder, of course it's not very fun :)
