Workshop Question

Potentially stupid question, but does a workshop create hammers the same way a granary creates food when used as internal trade route?

I usually use them for food but have a very low production city I want to get working harder so I can build some wonders in my capital without the need to rush buy stuff in the low production city.

Yes. They are 'created' they aren't 'taken' from the source city.

Yup; in late game I often switch one of the food cargo ship routes going to my capital into a hammer route.

Excellent. Just wondered why the attention is on the food aspect of trade routes. Going to have to try them out!

I tend to focus on both. Food transfers are easier to get (Granaries are earlier) and I'd argue better (food is better overall). But, if you have a wonder to build, it's a great thing to have).
