World History Mod development thread

@civeditor11: awesome, thank you! I will have all the neccessary information planted on the civjunction forum. Mostly it involves filling out civilizations, leaderheads, units, buildings xml files with whatever you see. It's really just turning the piles of information into xml. Don't start yet, I'll get the North American information finalized first.

@krug: ok :) North American civs are first on the list. Dropping by once in a while though is the biggest contribution; while I am still working on the mod quite hard, I amn't able to keep it as active as before.

A question: how do I open a command console in a given folder? OR when I'm in cmd.exe how do I change the folder that it's in? (Preferrably the first, but either is fine).

I will be packing and busy for a couple weeks, but I'll still be doing a bit during that time.

Enter cmd.exe, then type:

Code:
cd [insert directory here w/o brackets]

Okay, so while I work out the final kinks with the Offensive Pacts...

Kevin, you mentioned you needed help with the RFC Engine? What exactly do you mean?

I've taken a peek at some of the unique code, I think I'm starting to understand it...

Well I'm all settled in my new home but realized I needed to plug in internet. I'm used to wireless, and I built this computer, so I thought I needed a wired network card, though I didn't, because my mobo already had a connection. I had to use an expansion slot backplate as a screwdriver (forgot to bring one :( ) and took lots out to make room for the card. Unfortunately, I cannot get my graphics card back in as a fan is in the way, and the screws are REALLY drilled in there, so I can't do anything until a new screwdriver arrives.

SO, no graphics card=no work on map or game, other than information, for at the very least a week.

@Krug: thank you, I will update tonight (I hope)!

@Gooblah: Well, in order to get the RFC engine to work code editing would have to be done. I tried simplifying it but I couldn't get around the errors.

I plan on using RFC Europe's code (and credit them) as a basis, so hopefully that will go smoothly.

~~~
Also, any help with info on modern/recent North/S American civs is much appreciated! The historical civs are the easy ones.
Currently, all historical North/S American civs have most of their info, which is great!
Hey there world! Just checking in to let you know I haven't given up on the mod :)
Hope things are coming along.
Any feedback on the African list? I haven't done any work on it for a while but I've been busy, and now I'm sick so... We'll see...
Anyways, best of luck with the mod! Hope things are coming along!:goodjob::goodjob::goodjob::goodjob::goodjob::goodjob::king:
Yes, I've added my own suggestion, the Garamantes to your list. :)
Where is the link to the Map thread? Shoudn't it be in the OP?
What should I be doing? could someone please tell me so i can start on it soon.
a couple of things i would change:
UU: ANZAC/Digger (infantry with march, city defence, and build fort capabilites)
UB: Sports Complex (coloseum with increased commerce, as sport entertainment represents a huge industry here)
UP: Power of Diplomacy (better relations with all leaders, easier to negotiate agreements eg Right of Passage, defence etc)
UP: Power of Isolation (stronger defence against spies)
UHV1: Control 75% of Australian land (we never drove off aboriginals)
UHV2: I think there's a strong argument to putting Australia and New Zealand as one Civ
Kevin, could i please have a look at the settler maps you've done already?
The map link is in his sig :)
Oh, and I don't know about the Garamantes, there's already the Numidia that are in that area, but we'll see :D
Hope things are coming along Kevin
Oh, and it's come to my attention that Ethiopia my have in fact formed into a Kingdom even earlier then perviously thought, known to the Egyptians as 'Punt' which they hold as they 'Birthplace' But I'll look into it :)
@Kevin, so you know my position on Ethiopia and Aksum being the same kingdom, but since it is your mod, it's still up to you unless otherwise stated :)
Sorry if I haven't replied, I am once again no longer getting email notifications. And, I thought my internet was working when it really wasn't, and it is now.
Info has been updated. For Australia, I'd rather diplomacy be a personality trait. New Zealand is not currently a civ, so although I wouldn't say they are currently one big civ, Australia has a fair amount of interest in settling/defending it.
@civeditor: Make sure you have the latest civ4 version installed. For now, I think it would be wise to start with North American, and maybe African civs. You would take the original xmls and change them to have all the info on civ junction. So for example you would take the units xml and make sure all the units i have listed (for North Am. and Africa to start) are in there, and everything is set properly.
Here is a list of xmls you can work on:
Civilizations (just basic info)
Leaderheads (just basic info)
Units
Unique Units
(Buildings soon, not enough info yet)
Unique Buildings
Religions (though info may change)
Techs will be a big neccessity once I figure out what to do for them
All this info can be found in various threads in the civjunction link in my sig
@Grishnash- I reviewed it, but forgot, I lost internet right after I thought it was working again. I will post comments in that thread as soon as I've reread it.
@moopoo: sorry that I forgot, I will get some to you asap. All I really have are North American ones, so I'll redo a major European one so that you will have a good reference. I'll make sure they get to you somehow.
1. I need help with modern North and South American civs! Meanwhile, I'll check other mods for existing info/units/buildings/etc.
2. At what point should a civ become a minor/unplayable/independent/native/tribal civ? Overall I'd say the European civs which are represented are a lot more key than those of Africa and some other places. I realize that they have local importance, but where would be a good place to draw the line? Having said that, I'm not going to be too hasty to get rid of any, and if I did, it would be very questionable ones.
GeneralSpecific, are you still around?
I need to know how to represent a tribal democracy (a form of government for Huron, Iroquois, etc.)
Have you made any progress on sectors you postponed (currency, some additions to government, etc.?)
And sorry I missed the post you made ages ago (your last one), though I didn't really understand it
It is crucial that I have names for all key civics, so that we may fill in all the holes for N/S American civs, and then xmls can be made etc. In the event General Specific isn't around, I will need help with this.
Once we finalize Civics, I can start adding them to the xml and sdk.
I just realized a problem.
Are you going to make diplomusic for each civ?
Cause that didn't work in CIVGold because they figured out that adding diplomusic to each civ would add a few KB of data to the file.
My solution would be to make one set of diplomusic for a group of civs. (Like one for Western Native Americans, one for eastern, one for southern, than one for Mesoamericans, one for Andes, one for Amazonian civs, one for southern american civs) etc. Do you get my point? You could get everyone to have diplo music, but give the minor ones generic ones.
I realize it is impossible, I would simply do the ones I can find music for, the rest would use existing or generic music. I think it would be fairly easy to find generic music for the obscure civs (ie native music).
To anyone just checking back, please read the threads just above!
You could have Diplomacy Music for Cultures in the main download and for those who want it you could have an addon that adds more flavour to the mod. For example, diplomacy music for each individual leader.
Yes, that is what I meant.
Just include generic diplo music, and let us mod in our own music. (i'll be adding in Polish music whne this is done).
