World History Mod development thread

Every Site on the web thinks telling about EVERYTHING but Chagatai Warfare
Any good sites?
PS - Forget Wikipedia, nothing there

lol really? Ok then, what is a thunder brave? :S

edit: well, you'd have to look well beyond wikipedia for many of them; you could always leave it and we can look for it together after the non-nearly-impossible ones are found

hmm maybe (just a guess) it's a brave with a musket? If someone could confirm that I would be happy

Chambul is fine, though I might touch up the skin, and hopefully you won't mind me switching animations so I can give it weapons. Caz it does need weapons to raid!

edit: gone til evening

edit: bahhahaha I kind of fell for that at first... but I know for a fact that braves are not little teenagers... GOSH I feel so stupid now

Don't matter to me, it is your mod. ;)

What exactly is a Brave? I know they're a native warrior but beyond that I'm stumped

This is not a joke
Definition
The term brave was a construct of early American traders referring to Native American men who were well trained and prepared to defend their homeland and families.

Well, that doesn't even say it's a young adult or teenager, ha

BTW, I probably sould have told you this, but I don't need the units to exist. If they already do, that's great, but the point is to research, you would find yourself really, really limited if you choose UUs based on avail. artwork. So for the most part, do research, choose historical UUs (can be more than one per civ), then look on this site for artwork and if it exists point towards it, and if it doesn't exist I will happily make it. My number one concern is definitely the historicity/how good a UU idea it is. Artwork I will make sure is good anyways

thanks, the unit looks good!

Kevin

Shams al-Din Kart seems to be the best UU for the Ilkhanate Horde...
He should probably replace Great General.
No art :(

hey, try to include whatever you have found out about the UU... so what exactly is a Shams al-Din Kart? It is a unit, right, not a specific person? And if neccessary try to include a couple words about what it would look like, but in most cases I should be okay. In this case I might not know because it is not based on a typical unit (ie spearman, archer)

art is np

He is a great General.
Sorry I could not find a normal unit...
You want me to look more?

well, a great general itself is not a problem. Because for example for Celtia I have the druids which are a UU and also a multiple-great-person. But it cannot be a specific person. It has to be a unit of some sort, meaning that there are more than one.

Sure, if you find something let me know; the Hordes are hard to find units/buildings for! It really doesn't help that they were semi-nomadic. But if things get really tough don't be afraid to move on, we can always both look for the missing ones later

And I just finished the art for ten units! Things are moving along

The Descendents of Shams al-Din Kart were a Dynasty
First in Google Books:
E.J. Brill's first encyclopaedia of Islam, 1913-1936
Then Search:
Shams al-Din Kart
Viola!
Complete History

:woohoo:

hm, so I guess we could say there are more than one, but I truthfully don't know if it is a unit. OK so if we decide to use it as a great general replacement, what would the difference be between it and a normal great general?

I hope you don't mind me asking we continue instead with India/East Asia (excluding hordes)... it won't be any easier but it will make more sense because their armies were at least similar to Western armies. Whereas the hordes were mostly just horse archers and horsemen

We should just give all of them the Default Keshik Unit

maybe, yeah, there won't be a lot of Horde units, I am thinking... let's worry about them once I figure out what the base units will be. (for now ill update the info with the first two UUs you found)

~

base native, iroquois, sioux preview coming soon, with most of their respective UUs!

Actually, I can't preview anything for a while because I cannot put more units in-game right now. But they are done!

For now, out-of-game previews of two sioux UUs:

Olepi

Tashunke Prowler

OK, I have managed to get a preview of the base native units:

nativebasepreview.bmp

-sorry about musketman, it is still glitched up. I will fix it soon
-I plan on varying them more, especially their shields, which are currently all the same

And, I am almost done all native units!

Things are nice and on-schedule

For tech and unit buttons, I think I will represent everything with simple pictograms consisting of a black background and white designs
