I'm curious, who here is a Warcraft fan? I'm beginning to design a mod based in the World of Warcraft. I'm currently working on the design concepts, but I plan on having it play much like a Civ4 game - except you'll be able to play with whole new civs/units/tech tree and all that fun stuff.

Would anyone be interested in this kind of mod? I'll need some help with it.. I have Xml experience, but I'm a total noob at Sdk/python, and still a bit new at making new unit graphics/texturing and the like.

If anyone's interested, lemme know. I'll be working on the concepts, perhaps starting to work on the Xml files for the new things.

For the Horde! :D

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check out their mods and see what I can do about that.

I'm a huge fan of warcraft, but I would assume that for the amount of work it would take to build a good civ4 mod that looks like warcraft... you're better off just playing warcraft and the two mods mentioned above. Unless you can personally make a huge amount of civ4 unit graphics.

However if you decide to go ahead and make it, good luck. I can probably help you with some of the c++ and python work after the world 2009 mod is finished. I can't help with graphics.

Well the thing is, this game is not going to play like Warcraft 3, such as that one mod from a few years ago intended. This'll play like Civ4, but with the Warcraft flavor thrown in.

I believe the hardest thing to implement (at least for me) is the python/sdk stuff like spells and all the fancy stuff. I do plan on getting those in eventually, but first I'm focusing on just the Leaderheads, Civs, units, tech's, and assorted things. After those are more completed, then I'll look to start implimenting the good stuff.

If anyone's interesting in joining me making this, feel free to let me know.

And don't get me wrong RocknRolla, the two mods above are both amazing in every aspect. However, the reason I want to work on this mod is to have the Warcraft feeling. FfH2 and Warhammer, no matter how good they are, don't have that feeling.

Though I must admit, the orcs in Warhammer are hilarious.. :) Waaaagh!

From the little I know of Warcraft, FfH2 would be a good base for it. You can hijack onto the spell system, heros, mechanics, ect. Knowing python is almost a necessity due to many of the spell functions are handled in python.

Actually I will be doing a bit of that. I've already asked Ffh2's lead designer Kael for permission, and he not only says everything in this mod is OK to use, but he encourages modders to use them.

The main problem is me not knowing python XD I can do some simple things, like using WinMerge to merge a bit of new code into it, but thats it. I might be able to do that, provided FfH2's spell python code is named as such in the code. I'll look at it in detail here soon.

I've actually dabbled in the creation of a Warcraft mod that blends aspect of both WoW and older Warcraft games, but I lacked the modding knowledge to do much with it. As Ajidica said, your best bet would be to make a modmod for FfH2. There's already a lot of good unit art and mechanics created for it that would work well in a Warcraft mod, so it would really just be a matter of customizing what is already and adding in something new/different.

I had a lot of ideas that at least I thought were interesting and would work well, and if I can find them in my old files I can share them if you want them.

And while I cannot necessarily confirm it, I have heard that Blizzard doesn't like anyone using any of their content for anything, including for mods of other games.

I'd be interested in helping you somehow. I only know how to do XML tho... Also, I really don't know anything about WoW, except its like those fantasy stuff... But if you just give me the LH, the units, the flag, all that stuff, I can just put it into the XML easily, and voila, u saved an hour. :p But yeah, I guess you could say I'd be pretty useless...

I am sure there is a way to import the unit models from Warcraft 3 into blender / max and then rig them to nif format.... I have seen mods for WC3 as well, so someone has to create the new models for that, which means there should be an importer/exporter.
Now you simply need a little helper willing to do that :)

good luck

lol yea that'll be the fun part. XD Though, there is already a great unit graphic from FfH2 that looks EXACTLY like the Ancient of Lore.. so.. one unit down! lol
