The AC counter in the game makes it so that eventually, Hell breaks loose and there is a great conflict Good vs Evil. But I was wondering, could you add a second counter into the game that STARTS high, and needs to be brought down?

If you could do this, then it would be possible to actually have the game start immediately following the "Age of Ice." Not much can happen until the world "thaws" So you are running around with an almost unlivable world of Ice and no time to work on technological advancement for a fair time (which could be skipped by an advanced Era start maybe?)

Be kind of interesting to flesh out if it could work. Maybe the world already has some level of "advancement," but it is all based on Ice tools. So as the Thaw counter drops, all of your nifty gadgets quit working, and you begin to sense the influence of the other Gods, so start over from scratch with figuring out stone weaponry, and experimenting with religions.

Kael, you need a better firewall :)

I'd be willing to bet there's a dragon-capturing CotD-owner quest floating around there too somewhere. Leak!

Holey... I don't believe it, a new feature that hasn't been announced is guessed out of the blue. Wow, congratulations xienwolf (if seZerths quote means what I think it means).

Yeah, I was thinking the same when I read that. I suppose such a thing could make sense for a release with Ice, but so far they always claim Ice isn't a new mechanic, just a bunch of quests and junk.

How cool would it be to start out with a handful of units, no town, no Settlers, and have to get/comlpete a quest to recieve your first settler? Especially if you can walk (with a sled team for enhanced movement points of course) across the ice to get from one continent to the other, and thus if you are quick enough to finish the quest before Ice melts and seperates the continents, you can actually have your pick of some EXPLORED land masses to start in?

Of course, "explored" is a relative term, since for all you know the ice will melt and Ocean level rise leaving your pretty, sprawling continent a chain of small, cute islands :p And of course, you have no clue what resources may be hidden under the ice. (well, unless you are the dwarves and just came from under the ice yourself :P)

Hmm... I wonder if this has something to do with how they plan to make portions of the map inaccessible until late in the game, to slow expansion and leave room for newly emerging civs (Infernal, mercurian, colonies...)

@ zienwolf
quickly think of a new mechanic maybe itll be another unnanounced feature and we wont have to wait until the team tells us whats coming out

lol.

Remember though, nobody actually SAID that it is. We are just reading into what the "Ark Monkey" stated. And honestly, who tells their deepest, Darkest secrets to their monkey? Well, other than the Wicked Witch of the West...

I hope that there will be a way to make this counter go back up too (albeit not as easily as it falls), like a Illian repeatable ritual and the use of Ice mana. (Plus the Bizzard mechanic from Age of Ice should return as part of another late game illian ritual--but that can wait for Ice)

Heh heh. And a competing effect of floating "Dragon's Breath" so that when the Heat clouds hit the cold clouds we can have a massive twister form which sends the 5 x 5 square of tiles under it scattering across the lands :p

j/k

Actually, I guessed that:

BTW does Acheron have loyalty? Just thought about an interesting CotD unique victory: control the dragons (all 3, or 2 if either Kurio or Shea isn't in play, except that then it's too easy), build the wyrmhold, get dragons there and complete a 1000h ritual Dragon God or something like that. Or then a quest
here
So you won the bet
