Worst Civ

Usually the French are good neighbours, but not always. I was sneak attacked by them a couple of times.

Regards,

Slawomir Stachniewicz.

I take back what I said about the French. Just the other day, they sneak attacked me (even though they were on the opposite end of the world, on a different continent). They cut off my only source of coal, forcing me to buy coal from the Greeks before I rebuilding the road to it (it was deep in a mountain range, that's why it took so long). So I immediately built up a large invasion force of tanks, infantry and artillery preparing for what I called "Operation Frogstomp". I took three of their most important cities (including their capital in Paris) and sued for peace.

Sometimes I am glad that someone attacks me like this as they will be the ones who look bad when war is declared. And I can fight an honorable war rather than one which is viewed as petty conquest. Since I'd been relatively peaceful ever since wiping out Persia and India (early middle ages), the Greeks, Egyptians and even the Aztecs were more than happy to lend their aid against the lumbering, communist war machine of France (who had conquered the Russians already). It seems that they do have their own ambitions other than stopping the human from winning. Or maybe its just political maneuvering aimed at helping them get powerful enough to take you on, even if it means taking out a stronger, more advanced neighbour.

Alright, an interesting forum debate at last! First off, I find that the worst, the absolute worst, Civ to piss off in the early (and early only) stages of the game is Persia. Thoughs Immortals will cut through even pikemen like butter, and spearmen fall on their weapons at the very meantion of their name. However, Persia is not really known for its military side, and uless you happen to invade them, they'll leave you alone in all other aspects of the game, unless when they demand from you. But if you say no they never attack you anyways.

Definatly the most annoying nation is the Zulu, due to the Expansionistic/Militaristic attributes they possess. I find that if you creat a nice healthy defence, they'll pick on someone a lot small er than you.

Lastly, the worst Civ to be is the British. MOW does jack, and I find that they are attacked more than other civs (not just when I'm playing).

Well, these are my oppinions.

The best game I've had yet, was with the Americans,... (though I changed their name to The Fields Beyond  ). Because of the early exploration, I was able to build the largest empire,... then defeat the Aztecs and later on, when I went for India, I got a Cultural Victory - 25% of the world's landmass.

The Japanese and Aztecs are _always_ a problem for me... and I find that the French usually have the largest empire,... and the Americans (when I'm not them) the smallest.

Right now I'm playing the Realistic Starting Nations mod,... as the Romans... I've hadn't used them before, but picked them for their Commerical trait (when the race for the Americas begins, a bit less corruption will be mighty nice). The early golden age went incredibly quickly and was pretty much a waste... although I beat a few nations to wonders. I quite enjoy the Millitaristic trait though, in that I've got a leader now and the Heroic Epic... can't wait 'til the next war ;).

I love playing the game as either Aztecs or Egyptians, they are both very well suited for aggressive strategies, with Aztecs being my top choice. Militaristic is always nice, and the religious attribute is important to change to war economy in one turn, which is EXTREMELY important in the intense wars in the industrial/modern age. Besides, cheap temples and cathedrals gives you a head start in the race to get control territory (aka culture points). The jaguar warrior is practically useless for wars, but much better than the scout for exploring the terrain early in the game. Killing barbarians make these guys elite troops rather quickly, and then I use them after I have consolidated the natural territory to kill off wounded troops and trigger a golden age and getting leaders when I need them.

The Egyptians are weaker late in the game, but great early on. Yes, I know the war chariot is inferior the the horseman, but it is so much CHEAPER !!! If I go for an early conquest I can quickly swarm enemy territory with them.

Currently I'm playing Aztecs on the Monarch level, and it rocks! Emperor level and v1.17 in my next game.
