Well, my last thread got closed minutes after I posted it, so I'm probably risking a ban by putting another one up so soon, but this game has made me really mad. I'll try to be a little calmer here, but frankly I still feel justified in putting this up.

I'll give a brief background in hopes of overcoming my paltry number of posts here to Mr. Moderator. To say that Civ Fanatic describes me would be an understatement. I've been playing Civ fairly obsessively now for nearly 20 years dating all the way back to Civ I on a 286 with an 11" back and white monitor in 1991. I probably invented the nuclear tipped cathedral. I've loved each version of the game as it came out, even with their flaws and was very excited to say the least when I heard they were coming out with a new one this year. I like to play the games slowly, savoring the empire building, keeping a spreadsheet open to calculate potential avenues of pursuit. While I do not post here, I do read the forums and consult the information that the site provides.

But I've very disappointed in ciV. I've only played three games, and two of them have proved unfinishable. Not unwinable, but simply glitched to the point that the game will not allow me to complete it. What is more is that in three games I haven't felt very challenged either. The last one looked to be a victory on Emperor, even if I was robbed of getting to play it out.

So in considering starting a new game, I'm left feeling very angry. Firaxis owes me a better game. They either owe me a game that I can start and know I will get to finish, or the owe me a more difficult, richer game then Civ IV, and not one designed to be played on the more basic, ADD oriented console interface.

Either way, I wanted to see what other people thought about the simple question which is the title of the thread: Is it worth it to start another game?

Of course you should start another game, not worth it to just give up on it. What exactly was glitched?

You need to start a new game but a new game that is modded with lower production values and the difficulty on Deity :) :D

What exactly was glitched?

My first game on prince simply crashes when I click the end of turn. I kept going back to a few previous saves, but inevitably it dies at some point around the year 1950 with a windows error.

My last game on emperor I found that one of the last remaining AIs I need to conquer to win domination I cannot declare war on. I had not noticed it, but the peace from a war with that AI over a 100 turns ago had never expired. I suppose I could try another avenue of victory, but that would take alot more time then simply taking his capital.

Check out the Mod forums. There are some mod packs that are changing the way the game is played that makes it much more enjoyable for me, even if I have to ramp up the difficulty level quite a bit.

You can override the bug for the time being. All you have to do is nuke em. It will end the long overdue 10 turn peace treaty.

Good to see another Civfanatic like me. And yes, we must continue the fight from letting the publishers and the devs creating this into a console kiddie game.

Hmmm, well that is a good suggestion. Maybe I'll play the game out to the point where i get nukes, but that will take awhile as well. Thanks for the bug-get around tip.

I wish I could say that the fight will get us someplace, but short of making our own, better ciV, I think the fight is lost. There are too many of them, and not enough of us.

Idk. I like mods as a way to mix up a game that I've already played to death. The idea of using a mod to make the game playable in the first place seems, well, not too much fun. Like I don't have enough to compare the mod with in the first place.

I was playing a game with my brother earlier today and eagerly awaited my nuke since France+China had an unlimited peace treaty (I tried making demands on them constantly to get them to declare war, but that didn't wokr). It was very satisfying when I nuked them and a message went up saying I had declared war.

But if I have a 50% chance of finishing the game, then it feels more like I'm playing it to beta test it for console gamers. This isn't my job, its supposed to be fun.

Tried the same thing. I guess nuking is the only way around it, but that will take many more turns to get to. I was ready to kick the *!@# out of him now.

lol, pretty overwhelming poll results atm, 80% no/ 20 yes

Yup. Ironically I'm one of the 'yes'es actually. I love Civ too much to give up on it already, but dam is this game making me mad. If I don't get through this next game, I'm gonna demand my money back.

I voted yes, though I must admit I was very disappointed at first. But as civilapediac said I also love Civ too much to give up on it. I made a few changes in xml-files and I'm glad I did because the game I'm playing right now is the first game I really enjoy.

I payed, i'll play...

I don't like to waste money.... In the meantime i will play civ IV too, so i can enjoy either a true Civ game and a spin-off more relaxing and simple...

do they owe you anything?
no of course not. it's a game, you bought it. it does the things it said it was going to do.

should you start another game?
pfft probably not it's fairly rubbish we're all facing up to it sooner or later.
