Procrastinator
Decided to try and go for domination with this one.
Aim for the first half of the game was to get Mansa vassalised (and productive) and get to Astronomy as quickly as possible, with his help.
Built the Great Wall just as two barb warriors had a chance of sacking Istanbul, which was lucky
Built Stonehenge, which was a little pointless, really.
Missed building the Oracle by a couple of turns, which was annoying.
Something very frustrating was happening in my game, Mansa was the founder of both Hinduism and Judaism, yet no religion ever automatically spread to my cities. This slowed me.
War: Mali (680-1200AD)
Razed too many cities I think, Mansa was furious with me, and never capitulated. I left him with a couple of cities with the hope of trading techs and gaining a vassal later on.
Learned Astronomy in 1190AD and upgraded my galleys. Picked the weakest target on the other continent, Elizabeth.
A couple of turns before I could get my knights to land outside London, Hannibal declared on her and proceeded to cut up her lands. I needed to be fast.
War: England (1320AD-1410AD)
Unfortunately, I could only capture London, before Liz became Hannibal's vassal. Oh well, a foothold of sorts.
War: Russia (1450-1520)
Stalin was a pushover, once I'd captured Moscow, he capitulated.
War: Carthage/England (1545-1590)
Things were going great. I'd just learned Military tradition, had just upgraded a bunch of knights, and was hoping to roll over the continent with ease... when Hannibal decided to research Rifling, and mass upgrade! So I conquered England, and signed peace treaty with Hannibal. I then moved onto...
War: Persia (1610-1650)
A turn after my cavalry rolled towards Persepolis, Cyrus learned Rifling too. So, I was slowed again. However, my Level 3 cavs with Pinch were still too good for Rifles. Cyrus capitulated.
War: Carthage (1645-)
I was close. Just needed a few dozen more tiles. Hannibal's troops were still weary.
War: Mali (1670-)
Had to punish Mansa for being so useless and never capitulating, so I reached the domination Limit through taking his remaining cities.
Finally reach the domination limit in 1695AD.
Great People:
4 Great Scientists, 2 Great Engineer (Great Library, Parthenon), 4 Great Generals (One Military Academy, One Instructor, Two Warlords), 1 Great Prophet
Golden Ages:
1st Golden Age (1585AD) - From Taj Mahal.
2nd Golden Age (1660AD) - (Great Prophet, Great Scientist)
Good Things:
Building Great Wall just in time.
First to circumnavigate - made my galleon trips more efficient.
First to Liberalism - got cavalry 10 turns quicker.
Bad Things:
Building Stonehenge (pointless)
Missing Oracle by couple of turns.
Not being able to vassalise Mansa. I should have kept him sweet and killed him later.
Not getting any religion until 1260AD!
Not anticipating Rifles appearing so quickly, I could have moved quicker.
I know I could have probably won pre-1600AD. I played the first half of the game too quickly without thinking properly, which cost me a lot.
Fun game though! Hannibal is rapidly becoming my Civ 4 nemesis!
