Another comfortable win for Doc TK in this months' game, but the race for second was a bit more interesting, with EEO edging-out Jastrow.

5th!!! best result for me since I am playing the GOTM / WOTM games. Congrats to the winners and thanks to the GOTM staff for that game. Once again I have to study the game of Doc TK to learn how it is possible to gain so many points. Also congrats to Erkon... cultural victory in 1715 AD is pretty fast ( at least for me)...

I was lucky that starting continent was just enough for domination (together with northern islands). War was a walk, barbs provided far more challenge when I needed to put all the settlers in place - took like from 600 to 1112 AD. They were the most advanced military opponents, with axes and swords and such - nothing of this I saw from AI

Thanks to the staff for keeping this XOTM ball rolling, and congrats to all of the award winners!

Special kudos to my Gypsy Kings teamates Conquistador 63 and Ronnie1 for good performances.

@C63: Second WOTM Diplo award in a row, right? I TOLD you that you were our diplo expert back in SGOTM 3 25th score in the game, 17th global score and 6th global speed is not too shabby!

@R1: We are hanging together in that global score list (you at 35, me at 37). We won't mention the speed list (you are 22nd and I am ... 133rd )

For me, this game is my second highest finish, second highest score, and second fastest win in XOTM (my two best results are both prince warlords), so I'll take it!

My rank of 37 in global score shows the power of persistent military mediocrity in the score ranking system. My 8-6 win-loss record in games becomes a 7-2 applied to ranking (thanks "best of the two" system!). The inherently higher scores in domination (my one trick), the ranking of all scores to the one high score, and the fact that I have some points every month are the only reasons I'm that high up.

My 133 in speed is more realistic ... no points for losses, points are indexed to the victory type (so non-military wins have more points here than on the score side), and with the Blitzkrieg pros we have, my Crawlkrieg just can't score.

Maybe we should index the score points to the victory type as well?

To rehab my speed rank I'll have to go for some diplo wins ... at least they are not indexed against those 0 AD conquests and doms

I've got an award...I've got an award.....This is great news. - Ok maybe not one of the better awards, but it's still the first time my name has been mentioned in the awards table. - This has made my day. Chuffed to bits now.

My 115th place takes me to 277th overall. - Got to learn how to pick up some big scores.

Anyway, thanks to the GOTM staff for their efforts. (I'm going to stop this post before it turns into some sort of Oscar's speech...Just call me Hairy Belly. I'll go and shed a joyful tear into my beer.)

I wondered whether that was the case - suspected it when I got my domination and noticed that on the domination turn, the land I controlled in the new world looked almost identical in size to the land I didn't control in the old world. Of course that was too late for me to take advantage of the fact - well done for noticing it early enough!

Out of interest, did you actually count squares to verify it before you planned to not bother with astronomy, or were you going on a suspicion that turned out to be correct?

I decided from the start to try no-astro domination, but had to count tiles afterwards - I think this sums it up

Congrats to the high scorers. I thought I'd played an excellent game, with conquest at 1256AD being early for me, but with 47 players scoring higher I'm going to have to sharpen my game more... Back to studying forum entries for clues about how to improve...

Conquests allwasy have mach lower score then dominations.

It is just how score calculated. If you went for conquest compare year with other entries to compare your game.

Ya know...I think I was ranked ahead of you before I missed out on 2 WOTMs and 2 GOTMs...I'm still ranked 64th in global score, 73rd in speed, and 71st in the combined rankings...and I haven't submitted anything since WOTM8 and GOTM17! I seem to still be powering by on the strength of my Zulu conquest win back in WOTM6...half my points are from that still!

Beware though, I'll catch you yet, despite my uh...lackluster record of oh....4-5 in WOTMs and 5-13 in GOTMs. wow...I didn't realize my record was still so bad. I'll still catch you though, dv!

I have the 13th score with a 1640AD conquest.
It's not about sharpening, it's about fattening population.
In my case, I vassalized all I could which scores me half their population...
A big difference obviously.

Still, with warchariots available I would think 1256AD isn't the fastest finish ever .
