WOTM 09 Results & Congratulations

Congrats to the high scorers. I thought I'd played an excellent game, with conquest at 1256AD being early for me, but with 47 players scoring higher I'm going to have to sharpen my game more... Back to studying forum entries for clues about how to improve...
Score is based on population, then land, then tech and wonders. Decays exponetially with time. A fast conquest by destruction will not score very high as pop and land are too low. My much slower conquest of 1825 still scored 39,001 compared to your 1256 conquest scoring 29,871 simply because I retained most cities I took, which is good for score.

On the speed rankings for this game alone, you are 31st (compared to my 86th! ), partly because speed is compared to the fastest game of that victory type, which was a 125 AD conquest by johda. Only takes one outlier to "ruin" the speed curve for the rest of us  , and the outlier seems to be more common in the military victory types.

So like cabert said, maybe not so much an issue of sharpening, as of what choices you make (speed or score?).

I'll still catch you though, dv!
OW!! My toe hurts!! Thrallia, will you please watch where you are throwning down that gauntlet!!

That is setting the bar pretty low, don't you think?

Challenge accepted! Now for some trash talk!

Ya know...I think I was ranked ahead of you before I missed out on 2 WOTMs and 2 GOTMs...Beware though, I'll catch you yet,
Ranked ahead of me in SCORE? Oh yes, that would have been ... before I played my first GOTM! Well, not quite. It took me five games of GOTM (no Warlords), with 3 wins and 2 losses, to pull ahead of you in score by GOTM 14 (me 130th with 28 points, you 140th with 25 points from 4-3 scored games and 4-5 eligible games).

Closest you got after that was after WOTM 6 (you won, I didn't) where I was only 1 rank and 1 point ahead in score.

After WOTM 08, I was 15 ranks and 22 points ahead. Neither of us submitted GOTM 18, so after the re-pairings of the games you closed to 10 ranks and 19 points behind. Since you did not submit WOTM 09 and that was my second best XOTM ever, you are now 27 ranks and 41 points behind.

Hmm ... maybe my toe hurts from kicking your butt in SCORE!

Of course, you are pummeling me in the SPEED chart! Even after WOTM 09, I am 60 ranks and 37 points behind. Come to think of it, both my toe AND my butt hurt!

Things get intersting on the COMBO chart. After GOTM 18 I was 24 ranks and 37 points down. After WOTM 09 I am now ahead 2 ranks and 3 points ... pretty close! ;)

Doesn't look like GOTM 19 did either of us any favors. Got a spoiler for me in WOTM 10?

Seriously, it is interesting how similar our results are ... breakout game for each of us in WOTM 05 (the Zulu game), most of our points coming from 2 or 3 results, and often winning and losing the same games.

Maybe this friendly competition will help us bootstrap each other higher up in the rest of the field! :goodjob:

hm...WOTM10? I will once I hit 1AD. lol and after I write the spoiler for SGOTM4...the team has nailed me down pretty hard...I don't think I'm allowed to play anymore of our saves until I submit it.

It is gonna be a good competition between us...we'll find out if your high scores can beat my faster times ;) that is, assuming I can ever win again. I think the HOF has handicapped me somewhat- I haven't won a XOTM since I started the Quattromaster Challenge over there. We'll see if I can win WOTM10 or not. I'm not taking part in that crazy variant that Erkon posted...if you are, perhaps I'll outscore you :)

LOL! I finished last...only way to go is up! :D

I just started WOTM 10 today, so I have allot of work to do...but when I'm done I think I'll go back and reply this one using some of the great advice from fellow players and see if I can improve my game. This is a REALLY great idea, and thank you players for documenting your game on these forums, as well as all for putting up with this newbe ;) With all the wonderful information on this site, I know my game will eventually improve....hopefully!
