WOTM 10 Final Spoiler

@ Erkon: "Kill 'em, Kill 'em all!" is destined to be a CIV classic!
How many units did you have in the face of the 80 to 100 stacks of the enemy?

About the autoraze question ... it has seemed to me that if the orginal AI is recapturing the city, autoraze won't happen regardless of low pop ... might also apply if that civ has culture on the city tile? Or if that civ is sharing war with original owner (I have seen the choice to keep or give back to founder on some occasions.

Also once a city grows to 2 pop even if its whipped back to 1 it doesn't get autorazed iirc.

@Thrallia - My kill ratio was 2:1 (Each of my unit killed two enemies). This is very low, and the main reason was that I fought superior units most of the game.

@da_Vinci - I had about 10 defenders (or less) against the large stacks. What struck me as strange was that it took a while until the AI suicided his units. I could not detect any cooperation between the AI, and each of them could not take Ankara on their own. Still, suddenly they started to attack at very bad odds. I've seen AI attack with collateral units at bad odds in normal games. I don't know what triggered their frantic attacks.

@pigswill - That could be the reason. I don't have much experience of this. I was also surprised that I could raze a city that I had previously owned.

If you have not produced any culture in a city you used to own, you are given the option to raze it when you retake it.

2:1 is very low, but pretty good considering your tech pace compared to the AI.

Sounds like if a city has ever been pop 2, it won't autoraze. And if it contains any culture of the conquering Civ, raze is not an option (after all, we are not cannibals, are we? )

What a crazy fun game. Whoever set this up deserves the brightest medal.

I was thinking domination, but got lured back into cultural after seeing Egypt's territory. The problem was Monty. After taking Memphis and Thebes Monty sneak attacked (big surprise) and took my recently-conquered Memphis. After that, I bribed Saladin into attacking Monty by giving him my recently-conquered Thebes. That left me with no city on the mainland, but it proved to be a good decision, I think, because my remaining units were able to retake Memphis a few turns later while Monty was busy chasing Saladin. With that bridgehead, England's armies were able to take out Monty. Saladin and Asoka followed after, which left me with some cultural breathing space in the southlands.

From there it was a pretty standard culture game. Augustus invaded later and gave me quite a scare, but aside from devastating the borderlands he did little real damage. Somehow England managed to get all seven religions -- that was part of what pushed me back into culture mode.

I'm no expert, but I think this was an unusually fun game. :crazyeye: Kudos to the staff for setting it up.

1827 domination 39k

First ever domination victory as not usually very warmongery like, as all those units slow down the game a lot. After I got to Machinery early the Xbow/Axe/Cat combo worked pretty well early on, but then I got bogged down in middle ages when most AI got Lbows in their hill cities. Once I got Redcoats tho it was very straight forward taking out Shaka, Mehmed, KK, Toku, MM, Brennus and most of Mote to add to Stalin and Ragnar. If only I could learn to war better pre guns then would be able to improve scroe vastly.

I do much better in warlords than vanilla with my attacks on longbow cities due to the trebs ... were you using them? I make half cats and half trebs, collat damage promote the cats (city sac and big stack softening in the open if needed), CR promotion for the trebs. Eventually, I get CR3 trebs, and they eat up the longbows after some softening up.

I had thought about this issue myself. I don't normally prioritise Engineering that highly mainly from playing vanilla, when looking at the numbers a CR3 cat (8.75) is not much better than a standard Treb (8) when attacking a city. I think that this is something I will definitely consider for future, although more than likely next game we'll be stuck on continent on our own or something so won't need them!!

I'm on a xOTM losing streak. I hope the new WOTM changes that. I wonder what's cooking.

If current pattern holds, we'll be playing as Stalin on Emperor level.
How do you know this? I'm sure glad you're on my team!

Warlords on emperor ... I may have to wait until after SGOTM 05 starts up to launch this one, so I can apply some new tricks I hope to learn from new teammates DaviddesJ, hellwitch, and Lehm. Oh, and from Thrallia too, if he has any new tricks! :p ;)

Of course the pattern can be changed at any time, but Stalin is the only new leader from Warlords we haven't played yet. And starting from most recent game, we've had monarch, prince, noble games. Of course, before that we had a similar trend which had ended in immortal (emperor was skipped). But there is already a immortal GOTM running, so it is unlikely. We still haven't had a deity game in warlords, so that would be a possibility (which I personally wouldn't be too thrilled to play).

Anyway, just educated guesses. :)

you'll find out about one of my new tricks in the final spoiler for GOTM20 ;)
