Hi DynamicSpirit... just want to verify this is WOTM19 spoiler thread. The title and the text of the first message are not consistent.

Ooops sorry, yeah it is the WOTM 19 spoiler. I've now removed the incorrect references to BOTM 09.

(No, really, I hadn't cut and pasted the text, I typed it in fresh, I swear...)

Well, in that case, here is where I stood at 500 AD in WOTM19 ;).

I thought this was a very interesting setup. Not a great commerce start, but you need to maintain a good tech pace even for warmongering (since we knew astronomy was needed). The maze map also requires a navy (well, Galley's at least) to ferry units from your core to the front (walking around the maze would take forever). I decided Domination would be an interesting challenge.

I founded three cities and built Great Lighthouse. Then went after Hatty with Axes in 425BC. This was followed with a DOW on Hanny in 75 AD. In 300 AD I made peace with Hanny for Currency.

The rest of my time before the end of the spoiler was building courthouses, etc. to solidify my economy. Also to tech up to maces and cats for the next phase of the Domination.

Interesting map as usual.

I just rushed everybody on the map with axes and totally crashed my economy. Probably not optimal, but very entertaining. :D Last civ on the continent was killed in 325 AD and then I switched to builder mode. I wonder how much time I'll need to get the economy on it's feet. :mischief:

I settled in place and built worker, work boat, warrior, settler, worker, settler. I still only managed 3 cities. Barbarians settled between the incense and rice to the west where I wanted to put number 4. It seemed a long way to march troops so I turned my attention south to Hannibal.

I picked up pyramids, Gt Lighthouse and Oracle without managing the builds particularly well. I forgot I needed Maths for CS so wasted my beakers on Literature while building the Oracle. As a result I had no useful bonus tech to choose. To compound the mistake I haven't even built the Gt Library yet.

With all the wonders I didn't start building military early enough. Every time I thought I was ready to hit Carthage another defender would appear. Eventually I decided to turtle, beeline construction and let cats make the numbers game irrelevant.

So at 500AD Carthage has only just fallen for the loss of two catapults. My only hope for a respectable finish is to roll up Hatty and Hannibal in double-quick time and console myself that nobody else can steamroll this map before Astronomy.

Contender save

Didn't know what to expect here other than that I thought I'd want to get a decent SE up an running and just have some fun. Hadn't really completed a Warlords game before, so I also wanted to check out a few features.

Anyways... settled in place (fortunately) and got 2 more cities up relatively quickly. 2nd was south near hatty (by fish, rice copper 2600BC) to block her off and give me more time to fill out my territory. 3rd near stone, fish cow (2040BC).

Then built SH (1320BC), Pyramids (1040BC) and GLighhouse (575BC) and got started on the Glib. After discovering Bronze in my lands I contemplated an early seabased invasion on Hannibals capitol, but decided I liked being a builder more, so spent the rest of the early game just getting my empire in shape and filling in the empty slots between cities.

So basically nothing much happening so far, but there was a lot more action later on :)

I really liked the setup for this map though, good fun :)

Decided to go for domination...
Rushed Hatty in 1040BC with Axemen.
Soon after rushed Hannibal and got Carthage in 75 AD but economy crashed into the toilet. Had 9 cities at this point and a few wonders (Stonehenge, Great Library, Great Lighthouse) but no courthouses (oops).
Have played the whole game in one sitting for fun hence lots of mis-calculations - won't say more on here but have written up the game on my site.

Hello

This was my first attempt to gotm game and after nearly 2 years of break in playing...

I setup on place .. fortunately, since I have found also a silver in a single hill nearby (just aftering placing a mine there.)

Second City 1E from the cow, Third nearby the Crab. Then I put Fourth between Athens and second city.

I went for Hatty with several Axemen. Till 500 AD I took over all Hatty cities and now I am preparing to attack Hannibal with Horse Archers and Catapults.

I have built most of early Wonders.
I cant play when I dont see my economy on the highest possible level :)

Great map/setup. Even though I said in pre-game I was thinking Cultural, at some point I changed my mind and went for Space. I settled in place, and early contact with Hannibal made me try a galley-based archer/axe rush. Carthaginian empire was no more as of 1800BC.

Next target was Brennus. This was a slower war: it started ca. 900BC and although I had taken all but one of his cities, by 500AD he was still alive.

Wonders: SH, Oracle (CS), Tao shrine, GLib. I missed Pyramids and GLhouse - those were built away fast. Never mind, by 500AD the first cheap Uni's were already being built.

I didn't rush my axes, probably should have for a better finish.
Built Worker, Warrior, Archer, Settler. Settler settled just North of Egypt, blocking them off. Built Axes, destroyed Egypt's 2nd city. Settled for peace to get his units out of the Capitol. Moved my units to the east and attacked Hannibal just before getting peace with Egypt. Took two of Hannibal's cities , then redeclared on Egypt eliminating them. Redeclare on Hannibal and take his capital. He had built 2 cities further to the east, but I take them several turns later and raze them. Brennus' culture is very high and impinging on my captured cities. Economy is already crawling to a halt. I decide to raze the cities for Gold, a few turns later I take Brennus' city on the downward leg and raze it, followed by the city just east of his capital. He has 4 Gallics, 1 Axe, 4 Archers and a Spear. Bypass it and take his last city just north of Caesar. ~500AD at this point, Settle for peace. Caesar has moved a few Prats into his closest city and I decide to finish off the Celts first. I capture his Capital and sign open borders with Caesar ~800AD
Quelle Horreur! He may not be way ahead in techs but he has Prats and LBs, I don't even have Construction.
Time to play catch up. Caesar has settled one city ne of the former Celts capitol by sneaking through a Settler when we had open borders. I considered attacking him, but i need Ellies and Cats first. See the next episode for the rest.
