1120AD Conquest 144 k points

Looking up at my mate yet again  .

Domination in 1260 AD, score around 120K. I decided to REX and focus on GS's in the early game. Researched Knights before clearing my continent. Then bulbed through Astro. At one point, I had my economy semi-hosed, probably should have gotten currency much sooner.

I could have milked this some more, but I had designs on fastest domination. However, with Jovan in the mix, I don't see that happening.

Well, very badly botched. completly unfocused game.

I went for Brennus and he that went very badly. I took to many of his cities to quickly and couldn't hold up to his counter attack. I brought in more troops but could never get a strong foot hold in his terrirtory, and of course several hundred years of war really slowed down my production.

Eventually I wised up and made a peace treaty with Brennus, which allowed me to focus on Monty who had also declared on me. I capped him and by that time was able to move on Brennus with Modern Armor, Mech. Infantry, and Bombers against his Rifles, Cavalry, and Artillery. Still badly botched though I lost an entire army of close to 30 Bombers when Brennus retook one of his cities that i was basing my air operations out of.

I had been intending for a Domination since other than the religious victory in BTS it is the only condition i have never met yet but. just managed a diplo victory in 2000.

well ermm I got a win Domination in ermmmm nineteen tweeentty eeiiighggt... wish I could use a smaller font for that! But I have prepared some good excuses! Never played warlords before.. I bought the complete set including BTS so never saw the point till I ran out of BOTM with lots of month left. Set out for domination as it gives the best score and I knew the game was gonna be a walkover (he says). But I did run into my usual problem, hesitance to DOW. I never declare until im CERTAIN that I will win, I have tried to correct this fault but on the last couple of games ive tried to cut it finer I have lost my stack and the game because of it. caped churchill and KK without issue but not until about 17something. Thought right of to the other continent! Oh.. A navy might help.. not a single galleon.. right Ill have combustion in a few turns wait till then and keep churning out rifles and cannons as I don't know what the standard is over there. Got combustion here we GO! Oh bugger forgot about oil... uhhh. OK galleons. only had 3 coastal cities tho so slow navy build and ended up with too many transports by the time I left. Mansa was already dead and brennus had dowed me years before on request of KK so I started with him. The stubborn bugger would not capitulate until I had captured every city bar one. moved on to hatty a few turns of regrouping and healing later and was wiping out her rifles with tanks and arty. Arn't the tanks good! collateral damage as well! Was massively overpower by then as I just kept turning out tanks while I was still at war. Took 2 hatty cities without losing a unit and she capped and put me over the DOM limit. No medals or awards for me this time! (not like ive ever won one before!) But I might get a pretty coloured shield to add to the other couple. Ho Hum!

You can!! If you don't use the Quick Reply, and "Go Advanced" instead, there is a combo box that lets you select font size.

Oh, and not DoWing until you are certain you will win is not a bad thing, but taking your time building a military is.
Beeline a key military tech/unit, such as Cats, Maces, Cuirs or Cavalry and then whip/chop a whole bunch.

Biggest difference from BtS is that siege units can kill, so you can get away with only ever building Cats.

Thanks neilmeisterOOh funky new toys!yeah your right on the army thing. I need to do better research on my enemies power and stop getting fuzzy with my plans. I have habit of going for a build up and then thinking "well I want to keep my tech lead so one library in my best beaker city wont hurt". MUST FOCUS! must also stop sparing the forests. Too wary of chopping too many and giving myself health probs also like the lumbermills but the game should be won by then!

I went for a Cultural Victory.

I chased after Meditation but missed it by a turn. I picked up Mining and then missed Polytheism.

I also missed Judaism, so I used The Oracle on Confucianism to ensure that I wouldn't keep missing ALL of the Religions. I did grab the other remaining 3 Religions pretty easily enough.

Other than The Great Wall, which I missed building by 3 turns, I think that I pretty much built every Wonder that I could get my grubby little hands on (in other words, every other Wonder before The Statue of Liberty, if I recall correctly).

I Axeman-rushed Churchill and Kublai such that their capitals and my capital were my 3 Legendary Cities.

Marble from Churchill and Stone from Kublai made the Wonders very quick to build. In fact, with Forges, Organized Religion, the Industrious Trait, and Resource bonuses, in most cases each Hammer invested into a Wonder was worth 3 Hammers.

In the final replay, each of the AIs on the other continent managed to steal one thing from me: 1 Religion to each of 3 AIs or The Great Wall by Brennus. Other than that, they were of little use and 3 of them only met me within the last few turns of the game, with me meeting Brennus and Mansa at the same time thanks to Brennus having vassalled and one-city-challenged Mansa.

I didn't feel the need to Lightbulb up the Astronomy line, so I used 2 Great Scientists to Lightbulb Education instead (who says that you shouldn't build The Great Library in a Cultural game? :p).

I only forgot to switch into Bureaucracy and later Free Speech by a couple of turns each time after I learned those Civics' respective techs.

I kept Churchill and Kublai alive, although all that it really netted me was some partial-research on Monarchy, Horseback Riding (which was quite useless, since I didn't even bother to waste my time to hook up my Horse Resource until sometime in the 1400s), and possibly a couple of Trade Route boosts, but I don't recall ever seeing foreign Trade Routes appearing in my City screens, so I probably didn't benefit all that much.

I grabbed the Great Merchant from Economics for fun (I rarely do that in my Cultural games), but he didn't speed up my victory in any way.

I also had an extra Great Artist that didn't help in altering my Victory Date, since the last two Cities to manually reach Legendary Status would have achieved that status on the same turn as each other.

Oddly enough, I found that the Gold Resources were so poorly placed that the only one which I had in any of my Cities' fat crosses was the one in the capital, which I picked up by settling in place.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that Brennus actually bribed Monte into war against Mansa. That's a pretty impressive move for Noble and Brennus used the opportunity to capture and raze Mansa's Cities, then capitulate Mansa, leaving Monte holding the ball wondering what just happened and where his fresh sacrifices disappeared to.

Oh yeah, since the Aztecs also almost always appear in randomly-generated US games, I named my capital Tenochtitlan. It turns out that Monte was thus forced to name his capital Teotihuacan, hahaha. So, all of my 3 Legendary Cities had non-US names.

Oddly enough, it was because all of the Gold Resources that I found early on were so poorly laid out that I decided to rush the AIs... normally, I prefer to build my own Legendary-to-be Cities and keep my neighbours as my best friends, but the land just didn't scream Cultural Victory, so I had to take 2 of my Legendary-to-be Cities by the sword (errr, by the axe).

I had an awesome spot picked out for The Heroic Epic with a lot of production but then I decided that I didn't really need a military and so I built The Herioc Epic in my capital for it's cultural effects, hahaha.
