Settled:
I moved the scout E-NE, saw the Moos and the Phants, and gave serious consideration to settling 1E. Ultimatly, I decided that would give me too many water tiles in the (Beuracracy) capital, and decided to go 1NW, to the other plains-hill instead. I will be very interested to see what others did on this point.
Barbs:
They have been a bit of a pest, but ultimatly not really an issue. I did not even bother to settle a strategic resource until city 3 (after border pop, which was after city 4, and maybe even 5 were settled). I did have to build quite a few warriors, but by 1AD, I have pretty much the entire peninsula north of the capital spawn busted, as well as the lobe to the SW of the capital, which I also decided was mine.
Neighbors:
Irrelevant so far... I have met Osaka and Hannibal, and they both have done nothing either for me, or to me. From what I can tell, their land is nothing special either, so I may decide to let them live until the end. I have not yet research alphabeth, so I dont know their tech pace, but this is Noble and raging barbs. I would be surprised if they had anything usefull in techs for me to think about.
Overall:
At 0AD I have 9 peaceful cities. I can research 116 bpt at 100%, but break even at about 40%. I am 5 turns from Currency, and also have a good shot at BOTH the Pyramids and Hanging gardens in 8 turns. I also have 3 other settlers in place, and will settle them the turn before HG comes in, so if all goes as plan, will be at 12 cities around 200 AD.
Tech is a bit behind where I wanted to be. I made a pass at a late Oracle, thinking that the settings would keep the AI too busy surviving to even try for it. I had about about 2/3 of it build when it was BIFL. I then had to research CS (my target) by hand instead. Oh well... I do have CS now, and am working on currency. Sailing and MC will likely comes after that, before beelinging paper/education. After that I will beed to decide if I want to go for an early liberalism (to switch to free religion for the 10% research bonus), or delay liberalism and try to get something really expensive (i.e. Electricity or higher) out of it.
