Find any "eggs" yet?

By 1 AD, I have five cities on my continent. I've completed the Great Lighthouse and I'm building the Colossus. A pair of work boats sent out for exploration have gone north and south to win the circumnavigation bonus in 650 BC.

And, yes, I've spotted some Easter eggs. I really want Navajo, but getting past the defense bonuses you've given them is going to take some effort.

At 0AD, I just completed education, and am expecting Oxford in about 500 AD. I have about 10 cities on the mainland, with room for a couple of fillers. Should be enough to head to space, so I likely will stay peacefull all game, and not invade any of my neighbors if they behave.

Having said that, Navajo must be invaded, but I have not yet decided what "tool" I will use to crack that egg... Cavalry maybe? Cannons? Grenediers or Rifleman?? Something in that range is likely correct....

I have also spoted the seond egg to the west of the capital, but I have not yet figured out how to peak accross the mountains, so I have no idea what it contains.

U R thinking about rite. Has cost me PLENTY trying earlier.
Be prepared for another surprise; they are hard boiled eggs, real hard boiled. :wallbash:

First of all, thanks KCD for this fun game. The Easter eggs added enough of a twist to make the game a welcomed change of pace. However, I’m not a fan of huts since luck of the draw may give one player a juicy tech while another gets a horde of angry barbs… makes comparing games/strategies a bit harder.

Goal: Space Cow I realize that by going for both awards at the same time, I wasn’t able to optimize either one very well. For example, rather than running a bunch of Representation-enhanced scientists, I opted to work coastal squares to keep my cities growing. As a result, I only spawned 8 GPs (plus the free Music GA, Physics GS and Fission GE), which is far from optimal in a true Space game. However, these are the last two awards I need to complete the Warlords eptathlete and I would love to get them both at the same time to wrap it up sooner.

I settled 1N on the plains hill for the extra production and the quicker worker. My initial tech path was Fishing -> BW.

I wasn’t sure exactly when to build a workboat and when to finish the worker, but I finally settled on warrior -> WB -> worker. I was afraid that if I finished a worker first (my typical opening), he would run out of things to do other than build roads. The timing of this seemed to work out well as I was able to time the completion of the warrior with the completion of Fishing so that I could start on the workboat right away. Plus, I had an early second warrior to go out and start collecting Easter eggs (and huts)!!

Every time I saw a hut, I would tremble with excitement to see what I would get (I’m not used to playing with huts ;)). I wasn’t terribly lucky but I can’t complain at all. I got Masonry (T13), map (T26), experience (T28) and barbs (T??).

After BW, I couldn’t decide between Hunting -> AH or Agriculture -> AH. I typically go for Agriculture, but in this case, I went for Hunting because I hadn’t found any Agriculture resources yet and had seen two Deer resources up north. Plus, Hunting is a cheaper tech and I wanted to get something juicy from the Oracle. Based on past experience on this level, I felt that an Oracle date of 900 BC should be quite safe.

After my first workboat, my build queue went worker -> workboat #2 -> settler (T35). This is quite a late first city, but I wanted to get my capital humming with Fish, Clams and Sheep. So, city #2 may have been late but I was hoping that cities #3, #4 and #5 would be faster.

With so many good coastal locations, the Great Lighthouse seemed like a no brainer. I felt that I could safely put it off until 500 BC and still have a good chance of getting it, but I decided not to take any risks with it since I felt that it was a make-or-break wonder on this map and would allow nearly unlimited REX.

City #2 was settled by the two marble tiles with Fish and Clams in the BFC as well as a shared Clam with the capital. This city would have plenty of production and lots of food. My build queue there went lighthouse (whipped into GLH) -> granary (whipped into GLH) -> galley (whipped into GLH) -> Great Lighthouse in 1080 BC (T73).

After my first settler, my capital build queue was workboat (for exploring) -> warrior -> worker #2 -> workboat (part exploring and then fish nets for city #2 once the capital’s borders expanded) -> settler #3 (T55). City #3 was settled up north with the closest deer in the inner ring and several forests that could be chopped into the Oracle.

After AH, my tech path went Masonry (hut) -> Sailing -> Pottery -> Writing -> Math -> Mysticism -> Polytheism (more expensive than Mediation but it opens up Literature) -> Priesthood -> CoL -> CS (from Oracle in city #3 on T81 850 BC). Oracle in 850 BC is quite late. I’m not sure if I got lucky here or not. I’ll be interested to see if anyone else loses the Oracle prior to this date…

Confucianism, Bureaucracy, Oracle and GLH by 850 BC. It’s now time to REX like mad in order to fill up our starting continent plus any nearby islands that are reachable by galley.

By 1 AD, I have 9 cities (31 pops) plus 3 more settlers already completed. Confucianism has been spread to 8 of my 9 cities. I finished the Great Library in the capital in 425 BC. I’m getting 143:science: sustainable at 60% and 229:science: and -59:gold: at 100% with 252 gold in the bank. I know all ancient techs plus HBR, Alphabet, Literature, Music, IW, Monarchy, Construction, Currency, CoL, CS, Paper and 25% of Education. I’ve circumnavigated (700 BC) and met all 7 AI. I have one GS (525 BC academy) and the GArt from Music. I’ve built 9 granaries, 5 libraries plus one under construction and 3 lighthouses.

I recently found the Easter egg island to the east. I’ve connected ivory and I’ve got 5 barracks under construction. My plan is to take out Navajo on said island with cats and elephants. We’ll see how that goes… maybe not so well based on kenwyn's comment above.

I see that Jastrow is going for space as well. Surprise, surprise! :p I wonder if I can get into his slip stream and slingshot past him on the way to Alpha Centauri... more than likely his slip steam will be more like a gentle warm breeze before I put the first hammer into Apollo!

(I have read jesusin's cultural guide and experimented it twice with two "map finder" similar maps; also, I have learned to say yes to arrogant demands (maybe from a guide for Caesar))

4000BC moved N to settle
- researched hunting for the sheep... so the worker built some roads in advance
2280BC founded the GP farm to the near south
1800BC founded small horse city to the near west; trying to fogbust the rest
1360BC Oracle whipped in capital
1320BC choosing Code of Law: a religion would help for happiness (and didn't see anybody yet); hereditary rule would have helped
- researching polytheism for the Parthenon; trying to build it in the GP farm
1000BC exploring the west square with a workboat
- researching monotheism for organized religion
900BC still 3 cities; still didn't use caste sytem
725BC Parthenon in GP farm
675BC founded a small horse city to the S; I realize a neighbour is to the S and I should have invested in 2 workboat scouts; my research might have suffered
- having 2 scientists in the capital just in case a great scientist spawns
600BC getting a great prophet; since the religion has been founded in the purely artistic GP farm, I'll bubble some research
575BC bulb theology => found christianism; trying to build the Sistine Chapel in the GP farm
375BC founded a small deer city to the NE
300BC Shaka (galley from the W); never played against this one but heard about some things; signed open borders; he has no tech
275BC workboat discovers Qin to the S; he has no tech
200BC Qin's capital might be a nice addition, with pyramids, even if too coastal maybe; I must connect the elephants to the N
175BC great lighthouse built in capital; Qin has a state religion; Shaka has circumnavigated
150BC Montezuma from the W; open borders; might trade monarchy someday
125BC Montezuma asks for monotheism, accepted; he is pleased but still won't trade
75BC Catherine to the SE; found an etched egg to the E with barbarian culture and a warrior; will see later; this is not going so cultural
25BC what did I say? a brave (or foolish) warrior explores the island, revealing something easier than I thought (or maybe I underestimate some parameters), something definitely legendary (broadway?); will go there with some cats and elephants; trade to Montezuma (the one without religion so no diplo penalty) Code of Laws for Monarchy
1AD Catherine asks for priesthood; granted; she's now pleased and will trade (I won't though: calendar for theology, don't need); the warrior escapes from the island, severely wounded but alive!

(end of session 1)

So, I will try to:
- be first to metal casting and get the colossus,
- expand to all the island, especially near the elephant,
- build cats and elephants to get to the barb city, or finding another target, or at least showing some muscle to those not so quiet leaders
- should have built the National Epic already?

I have been wante to say this for a while. You, map maker is evil. That barb city, if kept as it is, won't connect any of the goodies to main land. And I am waiting for an AI to settle that island west of the hill fortress and see if I can get my scout to beam into the 3x3.

I SIP and expanded to 9 cities. Screwing around cost me to miss CS sling...oh well. Did build the GLH and TGL in the capital and will likely have Cavs by 1000AD. So from there I will decide what to do.

Anyone who has not played too far. Send 2 boats and 2 skirmishers and 2 stronger units to the Barb island. Land 1 skirmisher, a stonger unit will kill it, then use your stonger unit to kill the barb stong unit who were damages. Make life easier for you. This is tactics not spoiler. Just make sure your unit is strong. :)
