This was a military-dominated game in which - unusually - everyone who submitted won! There were some extraordinarily early dates - fastest conquest (and bronze medal) to Dhoomstriker in 620AD. And fastest domination wasn't far behind - frederiksberg secured that along with the silver medal in 760AD. I'm guessing the tiny map helped both of those dates. Gold went to Jovan Kukic - with an 1110AD conquest.

On the other hand I had assumed that the tiny map would make it harder than normal to get an early space win, due to the difficulty in getting enough cities without triggering domination. Not so - Jastrow won an impressively early fastest space in 1680AD! At the other end of the scale, Falabello's 2031AD space win secured him cow award with a huge base score of 13006. I'm not sure if I've ever seen such a high base score!

A welcome return to billybgame - who after an absence of a few years from the GOTMs has picked up his first ever fastest finish award for his 1988AD cultural win. Admittedly this probably has more to do with the fact that noone else went for culture ;) Meanwhile nocho picked up the fastest diplo win in 1500AD.

Here's where everyone settled.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

:p Well, my initial target was the ordinary victories, but before the Domi limit I questioned myself if Cow would be an WOTM award. So I stopped the game and confirmed it at Pantheon of Heroes. So, this is my first WOTM Cow and now I'm 3/6 !!!

Congrats for the winners (medalists and awards), and for aaaaallllllllll victorious players!

Thanks for one more game and effort, DynamicSpirit :goodjob:!

Some nice dates all around!

Jovan Kukic pulled out an impressively high score... there must have been more of a focus on growing Cities than on whipping them.

That's a sweet Domination date, frederiksberg!

A good balance of score and victory date out of nocho!

Jastrow cruises to space in style once again; I'll have an eye for Sabotating some of your Space Ship Parts in the next game to see if I can wrest control of a Fastest Space Award for a change.

Lagashvili had a pretty solid score, too; had I not hedged my bets between Conquest and Domination, Lagashvili could have easily scored Bronze.

Ronald also had a really sweet Conquest date; a little bit more greed out of me for settling Cities could have cost me the Fastest Conquest Award.

It's great to see a lot of solid competition!

One has to admit that Falabello was really dedicated to getting that Cow!

Congratulations to all others who submitted and won the game!

For a start without one of Fishing or Mining as starting techs, I like where lymond ended up settling, with a good balance of Food, production, and plenty of Rivers. I don't recall getting that Marble within my Cultural Borders, and I didn't think to pair it up with the Sheep Resource. For a start with Elizabeth, though, it's too hard for me to pass up that early Work Boat whipping action.

Thanks go out to the staff for another great game and to everyone who participated for helping to keep these challenging and fun competitions alive! :)

That is not so clear... Tiny is a double edged sword... Yes, finding enough production cities is a bit of a problem, and total beaker production is limited. On the other hand, technology costs are about 25% lower. In the early game (say up to 8 cities, before map size really matters, so for the first 100 turns, this save basically a flat out 25 turns on research.) For the rest of the game, the advantage starts to wain, and at some point, the larger empire on a larger map will start to pull ahead, but overall, it is not completely clear how map size effects space dates.

Good games by many players :goodjob:

I think Jastrow is right. The map size gave us an early tech advantage. My game could certainly have been improved upon by a more focused push to Astronomy and a better planning of when to switch to military builds and later to building settlers for the final land grab.

Did you ever finish a game late at night, and then forget to submit the game the next day? :cringe:

Oh, well, my conquest victory in 1685 would have been another middle-of-the-pack finish.

That's a shame.
These days, any victory has a good chance to get earliest (only) victory.

I have remembered late at night that I have an incomplete game in progress and tonight is/was deadline. Then I rushed to submit the incomplete game.
