I'm wondering if anybody would be interested in seeing some sreenshots from the SNES version of Civilization? It is quite different than what I've seen of the PC versions.. you can tell it is the same game, but other than that a lot of things look a bit different..

Upload some screenies, it would be cool to see what it looks like!
Just upload them in .jpg format otherwise it will take hours for me to watch them. ;)

They're in .png format.. although I might have been able to use GIF.. I wonder how many colours SNES uses.. oh well, even if I could have used GIF, I've noticed that sometimes 256-colour images are smaller in .png than in .gif, but not always.

Anyways, here they are (and lots of them too):

I realise the thumbnail view is a bit.. odd.. right now because of the descriptions. I think I might move all of my descriptions for that particular gallery into comments.. but I don't know how this script displays omments yet.. if newest are on top or bottom. If newest are on top then I might just leave them as desriptions and keep trying to figure out how to move desriptions to the right side of a thumbnail and have more than 10 rows per page..

Anyway, I'd suggest just clicking on the first image, then using the >> arrows to flip through them all in order to avoid the messy thumbnail view. =] The images also may seem a bit small.. at least they do to me, I always play the game via an emulator at full screen.. =P

I should make more sreenshots of different things in the game.. I've got a lot of map-view screenshots..

Also note I might hange the url a little in the future.. just in case anybody bookmarks the page to view it later or whatever. (If and when I do, I'll post a new url here.)

Nice screenies!
It seems you are making the mistake I used to make too. The reason why you are being bothered by the AI is because you don't kill them. ;)
Build an army! Build 10, 20, 30 units (knight or chariot) and go in for the attack. Take over their cities. It's nice to have neighbours to trade with, it's not nice to have neighbours on the same continent! They put their units right next to your city and if you're really unlucky even a city, don't allow them to do so! Whenever I start the main objective is to build 3 cities asap, build a few chariots to explore the continent and kill anybody who is there too. Remember it's YOUR continent and not theirs.
Once this has been done it will take a while before the AI will start sailing around and settling other continents, by then you've filled your continent and you just won't allow them to settle on it anymore.
Final remark:
Don't be afraid for war. with the right amount of units you will win any war and you can make peace after winning the war. :)

Well, yeah.. that's probably my problem =P By nature I'm a bit more defensive.. I don't go attack unless I know I can survive a counter-attack.. so usually I'm not prepared for world domination until I have the units with better defense. (I hate the fact the best defense one can get early on is 2, while the best attack is like 6 or something =P)

Usually my strategy is this, and I usually follow through with it for EVERY city until I start to get too many cities. =P

Build Defensive Unit
Build Defensive Unit
Build Settler (and have settler build a new city)
Build Granary
Build Settler (and have settler build a new city if early in the game, if later in the game then improve the land and then build a new city)
Build Defense/Attack/Navy/Wonder
When city begins to riot, or when population reaches 10, begin to produce Cathedrals/Aqueducts/Walls/etc

Usually that results in me having a huge population and such..

but you're right, I should try being a little bit more offensive. =]

Also, I do get very aggressive when an enemy decides to sit next to a city of mine, or, when I occupy the whole continent, when an enemy decides to land on that continent. But a lot of those screenshots were made in games where I was way behind in technology (except when I was Greece) and when I knew they could slaughter me horribly. =P

Wohoo I love the shots. Didn't even know a SNES-version was ever produced but it looks really more than good. Especially the citizens marching through your town it's really lovely SNES-style. I especially like cartoon-style graphics and some pictures I think are nicer than in the PC-version.

Civ I on SNES?
Absolutely a :goodjob:

yeah, I noticed some of the graphics on the SNES version appeared to be a little better than the PC version, but I have no idea about all of them =P

I just really wish the SNES version had that chart thing at the end and the newspaper.. =P

Im getting a 403 when I try to follow the link.

Any chance you cost post the screenies to the forum?

Tried again today, no problem this time!
:-)

Wow, some of those graphics are pretty cool. The maps seem to have a lot more resources than the PC version too.

I have no idea what would have been causing the error, I haven't even done anything with it except upload to different albums.. =P Must have just been some server maintenance or something..

And yeah, I noticed the PC version seemed very.. flat. =P In the SNES version, the Rocky Mountains are actually.. rocky. =]

Sometime in October the server I had those on went down, and unfortunately everything on the HD went too. I've since re-installed different gallery software, so the urls won't be the same. Also, earlier in September the web domain was changed. Also, early this week the os on the server was re-installed, and since then for some reason my new gallery software has stopped working. I'd have fixed it by now, but some other problems are preventing me from easilly editing the files on the server to test different things to fix it. And once I do fix it, I'll still have to re-upload the screenshots, because they have not yet been re-uploaded after installing the new gallery software.

Yes, this past month has been stressful indeed. =P
