I decided to play a huge continent map, normal precipitation, and temperate climate.

I'm playing as the Russians, because they don't seem like a popular choice, but since they are Expansionist/Scientific, I'm relying on population to help beat out the others scientifically, and relying on finishing Leonardo's Workshop so I can upgrade once I get to the Industrial age.

I couldn't figure out a good way to war while trying to expand, so at 1000AD I'm just finishing my expansion phase and I'm making an army of Longbowmen and Medieval Infantry. Because I'm the Russians, I want to kill with my Cossack in the early Industrial Age, and I am, on the side, making a force of 40 Horsemen.

It's a strange game. I got the Great Library before anyone had even researched Literature, so, even at 1000 AD, only the Netherlands has Literature (which I gave to them for an alliance against the Byzantines when they suprised me and took a city), and thus the ability to make libraries. I had my science at 0% for probably 60 turns before realizing that still nobody had even left the ancient age. So I'm making up for it by keeping Science at 70% until I run out of money.

Needless to say, I'm the leader of the tech race. My only Scientific opponent is the Byzantines, who are constantly at war with their Neighbors, the Aztecs. Poor guys. I'm next to the Dutch, who are 2nd in power currently, but are soon to be dead. England got stuck with a start in the tundra, I've just met Scandenavia and Japan. Japan has yet to even research Pottery (or is it Masonry?)

My location has a lot of jungle, which has slowed the growth of many of my cities, even with 100+ workers.

Huge maps take a long time.
I'm a bit worried about my score tho. It's 1000AD and I've still yet to war with anyone. I have 14% of the land and 30% of the population. I have 8 opponents. Victory seems assured, but not points.

Any tips from here on out?

good luck, man!

Russians seem a reasonable choice.
I'm not sure how scientific helps when you should concentrate on expansion always. Religionist or agricultural would have helped more IMO.

I'm a bit out of sync with civ right now (starting BF1942), but I still sometime play, and wish you good luck!

Chaim.
