XML Changes for Slowing Down Early AI Conquest

Until the AI is patched, what XML changes do you suggest to:

- make the AI less easy to defeat as the player.
- make the AI better at not being mostly conquered by mid-game by other AIs. I always play on continents maps and by the time I discover the "other" continent, it's always been almost completely conquered by one or two super-power AIs. So most AI civilizations either have 20+ cities by mid-game or have just a couple of cities left by midgame.

The only change I've made so far is increasing peace treaty times from 10 turns to 20 (I play on "epic" speed).

I believe it will take a little while for the AI to be patched and I'd like to enjoy CiV in the meantime. Any suggestions on how to slow AI conquest down and to make war more difficult for the player would be welcomed.

also: I play on "emperor" difficulty. I'm thinking of making a change to the "handicaps" XML file that would change AI unhappiness from 85 to 100. More unhappiness might slow pre-midgame conquest by the AI down a bit. Thanks in advance
 
I suggest you try the Active Defense mod for keeping the AI's alive and stopping the early conquest avalanche effect. Think its in the ModComps sub forum...
