No, the error message is not copied in a file. It is strange that you don't have any errors at launch now. That error could explain things (or not). Perhaps you could have a look at the log files located in the "My Documents" part. In the Sid Meier's Civilization 4 folder, there is a shortcut to it _Civ4Logs.
Another thing I would try to do is to put the Warlords texts in the BtS Text files folder.
And don't worry, it is interesting for me to try to find the source of the problem. Like a murder mystery!
