I am having two problems. First, I recently had to reinstall XP pro on my system. Everything works fine on this OS, except Civ III. When I am in the game, the animation slows down. The menus and things work great, but the unit animations aren’t working. Such as, when I have my settler build a city, it takes him five or more seconds to get through the animation sequence. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

My second problem is response to my attempt to fix this first problem. When I had ME installed on my system, the game worked like a charm. So I changed the compatibility setting so emulate ME. And now, I cannot load the game at all. Clicking on the icon just gives me an hourglass for a few seconds and then it acts as nothing has happened. Any ideas on this?

The game still works if I take of the compatibility. So the second problem really isn’t important. But the slow animations since reinstalling XP make it unplayable. I’ve seen a few other topics on this, but no solutions. It took me an hour to get through five turns. By that point, I decided Age of Wonders was more appealing than Civ III, and quit. Is there anything I can do?

When you reinstalled, did you update your video card driver and install Direct X8?

Yup. In fact, i took extra notice to dowload the latest drivers from nVidia. I reinstalled DirectX 8, and have uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times. The animation still runs sluggish. The rest of the game works great though.

When you are downloading drivers from nvidia make sure to select Detonator 40 in the second box, and not one of the other options, these are newer drivers which are more likely to work correctly.
