XP problem FINAL ! Need advice ..

I just brougth the game yesterday, but it dont seem to work.
My info:
Win XP prof.
Geforce 2 GTS 32 MB ( nvidia driver v. 23.11 )
384 MB ram
Direct X 8.1

Tried the following :

- Used the newest patches ( 1,16 og 1,17f)
- used win2k.dll file on the original cd
- Turned down hardware acc.
- Enabled "smooth edges of screen fonts"
- Replaced civ3.exe with a NO CD crack
- Downgrade drivers

What else can I do ???

The game have no problems with the install, but when I run
the *.exe the civ castle screen appears, the cd spins ud and
then NOTHING ??????

Please help !!!!

have you tried setting the refresh rate in the civ3.ini file?

I had the same problem, opening movie worked fine, then black screen, sound even worked.

Civilization3 is the file name, is in the top folder, opens with notepad, looks like:

[Civilization III]

Refresh=60 <<<<------This is what you may need to add, set to your machines frame rate

MainFontSize=16
InterludeFontSize=16
Prefs Format=1
Difficulty=4
Map Type=0
Top Menu=0
Faction0=12
Faction1=17
Faction2=17
Faction3=17 etc,

good luck....I know how frustrating it is...

Hi Mark !

Thanks for your help, but I we solved the problem now !

It seems that win XP only have a problem with the original
civ2.exe file. Nothing helped and I was beginning to go mad !

But then I found a cracked NOCD *. exe version Moderator Action: Link deleted. Crack links are not allowed in the forum.
