LOS ANGELES - Former “Providence” star Melina Kanakaredes has been tapped to star opposite Gary Sinise in CBS’ latest “CSI” spinoff, “CSI: New York.”

They will play forensic investigators working in the Big Apple. CBS plans to introduce the characters in this season’s second-to-last episode of “CSI: Miami” with a story line that involves the Miami forensic crew traveling to New York to investigate a case.

“We’ve got Mr. Cool and Ms. Warmth,” CBS chairman and CEO Leslie Moonves said of the pairing of Sinise and Kanakaredes. “We’re in great shape now on this show. It’s really exciting.”

Kanakaredes’ other TV credits include “NYPD Blue” and “Oz.” ”Providence” ran on NBC for four and a half seasons until 2002.

Cool! :D

There's one more hour of TV I don't need to watch! Yay!

Whats next, CSI: Bangkok?

Fine, CSI: Bill Gates House.

It doesn't have to be a state. Las Vegas and Miami aren't states, and they have a CSI. :p

Sorry, but I don't think CSI has the depth, realism and suspense that UK crime TV series have eg Rebus, "Silent Witness" and other adaptions based on famous books of authors like PD James, Colin Dexter and Ruth Rendell.

Yeah, CSI is a pretty good show. I'm not able to watch it very often though.

I watch one episode and was quite disappointed. The subplot meant to provide light relief was unfunny, irrelevant and really pointless while the main plot was quite transparent. My UK bias I guess ;)

CSI was alright, but like all cop shows it's way to overdramatize to be anything close to real(yes they actually overdramatized forensic science) They go way into way to much detail and get way to lucky, they also get unexpected surprises whereas in realife it's usually who you would expect it to be.

Reminds me of the SNL parody of the Law and Order spin-offs. "Law and Order: Parking Violations Unit."

Enough with these crime shows already. I've already got 24, CSI and this new show Touching Evil on my schedule. The cast for this CSI NY is rubbish anyways. Cancelled before the season is finished I predict.

When I saw the tittle for this thread, I imediatly though of the Mark&Brian scetch CSIbiscuit. "His racing career got in the way of his true life passion, crime scene investigation."

I find crime-dramas pretty boring and repetitive. Satirical comedy is definitely the way to go.
Have you tried the UK variety as mentioned in my posts above - a cut above CSI and very engrossing - keeps you guessing and involved to the end.
