Looks good kulade.
Here's thje complete history:
After a major civil war broke out in the Arab world in 2012, the entire Middle East broke into dozens of small fuedal states. Because of intense rivalry, these states began to destroy each other, primarily by attacking oil fields and industry. Because of this, the world oil industry nearly collapsed, leaving Russia with the only substantial oil supplies. Russia began to drill its oil as quickly as possible, exporting some to the highest bidder, while using the profit and remaining oil to rebuild its military to its former glory.
After monopolizing large-scale oil trade and using the profit to rebuild its military, Russia set out to restore the former Soviet Union in 2014. (By this time Communists had once again gained control)
Simultaneously, the United States, Britain, and other developed countries experienced an extreme economic crash rivaling that of the Great Depression. The transportation industry was effectively shut down as gas prices rose to $20 per gallon in a matter of months. Riots began to break out across the country as industries shut down, leaving an unemployment rate of 40%. The government and private researchers scrambled to find new forms of energy, but there was not enough money or time to respond.
By 2017 Russia was already the most powerful country in the world, and former Soviet republics began to rejoin the new Union. 5 years after the breakup of the Middle East and destruction of its oil fields, the United States and Britain were left with one choice: Take the remaining Arab oil by force and rebuld the industry or starve. The goverenment chose the former, but the hastily planned invasion backfired. Russia swarmed into the region from the north and held ground as poorly equipped Coalition forces tried to capture the precious oil.
Russia declared war on both countries in june 2018, and the UN (which was now strongly influenced by the New Soviet Union) enacted a complete trade embargo against the US and UK in July. The nations were soon straved not only of fuel, but food and consumer goods. Their shaky economies collapsed completely in eraly 2019 as urban areas starved and rural farmers made a fortune selling their produce. Both governments attempted to sieze farmland in a last desperate attempt to restore order, but it was too late.
It began in the United States. The Arm, a large extremist faction set against government intervention in the Middle East and the siezure of farmland, revolted in April. Its some 3 million members across the nation banded together and formed a de facto government as the US government was largely ignored. In August 2019, another group, Veritas, a fundamentalist religious group, claimed the end of the world had come, and rejected all governing powers in favor of obeying their leader, known only as Truth. Little was known about this person, except that he/she was apparently willing to do anything to stay in control. Veritas followers began a sort of holy war, a "cleansing" of the planet of any who opposed their ways.
The Arm, meanwhile, was a less extreme, though still violent faction. Supporting chapters sprouted up around the world, and slowly, The Arm stabilized and began to flourish. An international co-op traded goods openly within itself as well as with outsiders. For a short time, it seemed as if some sort of order could be restored.
But it was not so. Another group appeared first in Britain and then the US. At first it was more of a political feeling than a single party, but soon the hundreds of thousands supporting Soviet annexation of the UK and North America (by this time most of Europe had joined or been conquered by Russia) banded together and swore allegiance to Soviet President Sergei Gurlukovich. He acknowledged this movement and created the Sons of the New Soviet Union (SONSU) in February 2020.
Officially it was merely a political party charged with promoting Soviet intervention in the world economy, but soon reports of massive weapons shipments arriving in Britain were heard in the streets of the US. (now only a symbolic name of the region, as the US government officially dissolved soon after the uprising of The Arm. The only trace of US gov't remaining was the martial law systems enforced by local police in urban areas.)
The greatest shock came on July 18, 2020, when over 100,000 armed British militiamen claiming allegiance to NSU swarmed their country, eliminating the meager opposition of local law enforcement. On August 1, Britain was officially annexed by the New Soviet Union. Within days, smaller independent NSU loyalist groups rose up in the former US, but this time the populace was prepared. While SONSU was estimated to be 200,000 strong in the US, the majority of the now militant population bitterly opposed foreign control.
It remained unknown whether the small pockets of SONSU violence were sanctioned by the Soviet President, confident that Americans (as they still called themselves) would easily give in after hearing of Britain's fall.
The US was now a ravaged warzone. While it was not entirely true that anarchy ruled, primitive fuedalism was popular. Local law enforcement battled Veritas extremists and remained suspicious of the growing Arm chapters, whille the general population fought to survive in a world full of gangs, organized and random crime, and a very unstable fledgling economy. SONSU remained a very real threat to all other groups, especially the law. in some areas, the tension was so great that factions either fled to hideouts roamed the streets in armed bands, killing anyone not associated with their cause. The worst of such scenarios was the once glorious New York City....
As Paul Harvey would say, now you know the rest of the story...
Feel free to change some names around or add new factions....
