Thanks for checkin this out!

I have a brand new XPS410 and I started to install the game we all love. I bought the Gold edition and it comes with just 2 disks, CIVIII and the Play the World expansion pack. During the install it says to insert disk 2. WTH? I went ahead and put in the PTW disk and it continued to install. It tells me to put in disk 1, no problem. Gives me the Play/read me screen, I hit play and then it tells me " wrong disk inserted". i talked to a Geek Squad guy and he says it might be because of Vista trying to run a game for XP, sounds plausible. Could it be that the CIVIII disk is messed up?

HELP ME, PLEASE!!!! IHAVE TO CONQUER OTHER CULTURES AND SUBJUGATE THEM TO MY WILL!!

Thanks!

I think it is a Vista problem. Your games disks are Okay.

I don't have Vista, so I can't help you directly.

I suggest that you scan this Forum (Technical Support) for the word Vista and investigate from there.

I know that other people have had problems with Vista, but I am not the expert you need.

I guess I'm not the only one with this problem. I just bought Civilization 3 Gold Edition and had the same problem. The only difference is I don't have windows Vista, so I know that might not be your problem. I am currently running on windows XP.

I did send off an email to the company, and they said they should get back to me in 24 hours. I'll let you know what I find out.

If you WinXP Pro, you'll need Admins rights to install the game. Not sure about WinXP Home (though I will find out this week).

I'm not sure if I know what you are getting at. I have admin rights on my computer, and the game installed just fine. I just cant play the game. I put in the CD and it begins the auto play and the start up menue comes up. From here you have the option to press play, and when I do the error comes up that I need to put the correct disk in. I tried both disks an neither of them work.

Do you have just one CD/DVD drive?

If you have two of them, the game will expect to find the CD in the tray from which it was installed. So, if you installed it from the CD drive, but are trying to play it from the DVD drive, it will have a fit and generate the error that you see.

I turn off Auto-Play on my drives and start the game directly from the hard drive. But I don't think that will help very much.

You may be forced to uninstall/reinstall.

i had the same problem and got this response from tech support:

Hello.

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, based on your analysis file and the information you have provided, you do have a faulty production disc. Please return this game to your point of purchase for a refund. Please do not exchange this game for another copy of this game from this store, as you will experience the same issue.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
