I am trying to put an old map in a new Mod, and every time I start the scenario I get the "you have been defeated" and a CTD.

I put units on the map for the civ I start with. I have many cities for my civ. How can I get the map to load so I can work with it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have had problems in the past where I tried to use an old map with my mod and that would happen. Most of the time (but not all of the time) it would generate an error message also. I think the defeat message happens if the map error occures before any of your units and cities are created. With my mod this was usually caused by the map trying to create a unit that I had since removed from my mod.

It also happens like they said above but with older map they put settlers in the ocean and die right away, causing the defeated stuff.

All you need to do is make sure the starting locations are on land, you can do this with a utility called MapView, i always use it, course i like the OLD mapview alot better than the new one, no offense to the author.

The problem occurs also when map file has wrong amount of teams defined ie. if mod DLL increases maximum number of civs to say 50 and map file has defines also for 30 or so, then the "you have been defeated" message will occur at the start, probably because barbarian civ is on wrong team number.

Thanks. Those suggestions are very helpful and I am very grateful for the feedback.
