Your choice for ruler of the world.

I don't think Pol Pot gave anything more than lip service to the notion of Communism. Mao at least gave the impression he was serious.

You're right.
Pol Pot tried to de-modernize his whole country back to the stone age, while Yang has +1 in industry.... Which don't fit right...

My picks

1. Lal (good human rights n' stuff)
2. Santiago (a bit too militaristic but a culture of freedom isn't too bad)
3. Morgan (I rather like capitalism)
4. Zakharov (Nice guy, good commitment to science)
5. Dierdre (Nature nut)
6. Miriam (Fascist religious)
7. Yang (Jerk)

Really?

The way you treat other nations in the Post Wars seems to suggest otherwise.

It's called "pretend".

What does Lal has to do with the real world or your comment with this thread? :mischief:

1. Zakharov - scientific progress above all!

2. Lal - for his UN politics.

3. Deirdre - someone who wants to save the planet.

4. Miriam - but only as a forty-twoist (the most screwed religion ever).

5. Santiago - only because she's better than Yang and Morgan.

6. Yang - better to have a communist than a capitalist.

7. Morgan - capitalism sucks.

And hello to you, Terje, fellow Trondheimer!

It's not freedom. It's the freedom to bear arms. That's one freedom, not freedom.

Btw, hello to you too, The Person!

Yes, considering that there are more people just in NY than in all of Norway being from the same city is something special. Are you only posting in the SMAC forum? I haven't seen you anywhere else. (Oh, your sig says "SMACer forever". I see.)

And to stay on topic: Maybe I should swap Miriam and Santiago on my list. The problem is that none of them is the lesser evil compared to each other. (Even though I have played a few games as Santiago.)

Giving the factions advantages and disadvantages, and an agenda was a great idea, but it can quickly turn out in the way that people only play the "best" faction, or the faction they like best. Luckily there isn't a universally agreed "best faction".

Anyway, I think that if you took the best of the personalities of Zakharov, Lal and Deirdre and mixed them together you would get the perfect leader. Science coupled with human rights and environmentalism just can't be beaten ideologically. (Military on the other hand is another matter.)

I totally agree. Lal+Zakharov+Deirdre=the ultimate leader.
While Miriam, Santiago and Morgan combined = the US :P

(I post some in OT and History... But mainly here.)

I find it funny that there are probably many US citizens posting here, and you mostly choose UN/Greenies/Science ... yet your govt is Capitalism at all cost/Religious Fundamentalism/Santiagos gun nuts ...

hope all you posters go out an vote in your 'dream' govt ...

As for me, I'm thinking that I wouldn't want any of those people to be leaders of the world. Mainly because I think that job should go to me .. muhahahahaha!

1:Yang: Athiestic Selflessness and the Greater Good(Humanity) are things that should be embraced not feared. A police state embraced by the populous and inforced through indoctrination and force seems to be a stable choice, but at what price? It is not an ideal but could be neccassary.
2:Santiago:If anyone is Prepared, its her. Again, as a pragmatist, I think it could work, and maybe even better then some of the others, but not ideal
3:Lal: Perserving democratic rights and freedoms are important, but are a luxury that we may not be able to afford. Ideal but pragmatic.
4:Dierdre: Preservation of natural resources, the environment and the ecosystem are again important, but we may not be able to embrace it when faced with certian adversaties. Ideal but not pragmatic.
Tie for 6th:Zakharov/Miriam:The search for perfection through knowledge seems to have its advantages, but also seems too dangerous. The search for god seems just as dangerous as the search for knowledge, I think that division would be rife and stability impossible.

In a perfect world lal would be #1, but this is not a perfect world, and stability and prosperity under and iron fist may be the only possible One World Government.

1. Deirdre
2. Zakharov
3. Lal -- Too bureaucratic.
4. Morgan
5. Santiago
6. Yang
7. Miriam

Deirdre + Lal + Zakharov = The Perfect Leader

You have to make a choice: efficiency or integrety. You can't really have both (you probably can in SMAC, but not in RL...)

1.Santiago- I agree with self defence and pragmatic thought.
2. Morgan- Capitalism is the best econimic system. But it has to be bridled.
3.Miriam- Relgion and Ideology is a core of the human spirit. But Cohercion is not the answer.
4. Lal- Human rights are good but global peace is far to idealistic.
5.Dierdrie- Shes a sap
6.Zarharov- I enjoy science but it has to go along with ethics
7.Yang- I hate communism and hive ideology

I think Deirdre, at least, would be just as honest and less bureaucratic.

Yeah, you're probably right :)

Btw, what's up with the hippie-like Gaians and their -2 growth? I don't get that connection... :p

Smaller populations have less impact on the enviroment. The Gaians willingly limit their growth rate to be more eco-friendly.
Same explanation for the -2 Growth penalty for Green economics.

Yeah, I knew that :p
I just had to ask the question... :mischief:
