Heh. As a coder, one thing that amuses me about these forums is when people have ideas they'd like to see in the game, they try to tread delicately, like so: "I'm not sure if this would be difficult to program..." "if the programmers could do it..." and so on. One thing I remeber fondly is someone's suggestions of naming landmarks (which I think would be cool) but someone tried to shoot it down by saying that'd "take up too much memory."

Anyway, my point is, don't worry about it... if one man can create the Doom 3 engine on his own, there's pretty much no limit to what we can program. :) The boys at Firaxis can do anything you can imagine, and a little more. :)

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for it but it looked like the best place.

Happy coding!

Oh for want to have paid more attention in my C and PASCAL class in High School. I made some fun programs there... ofcourse.. it's a bit of a leap from the good old "make a program to imput and print a name" to "lets try to make a computer model of civilizations throughout history"

Odoacer: If they want to see things in a patch to C3C, I think it's fine to be concerned since I guess people at Firaxis can't put much time into C3C anymore. That's why any fixes probably have to be kinda easy to do.

i think its not abt whether they can do it?But whether it is valued for money.....?

So then they must be lazy bastards because they do not take the time and effort to create a thorough final C3C patch???

True but if you look at it, Civ is actually a pretty simple game at its core. Hell, a beginner could do a scaled-down version in ASCII as a little project. The basic game logic itself really isn't that hard to code. For me, the biggest hurdle in a game like Civ would be the AI.

That's true. But this isn't exclusive to patches though, I've seen it a few times in the Civ 4 suggestions forum. :) Always brings a smile to me heart.

isnt there more coding boundaries for patches than in a new game, as so many things are already in place

they never are real boundaries. The first poster stated it pretty right indeed. Basically everything can be programmed, and it can be done in a patch as well. Every file can be altered in a patch. They could make a patch that turns civ3 into doom if they'd want to :)

It is indeed of course always a matter of time(money) against the benefit of a change. That is for example why the new wonders are not in the city view and the AI is not smarter than it is now.

A coder can do something more, but the project (money, time, tech and something else) does not.
