Kindle Scout is a branch of Amazon which searches out new authors (like me) to publish. I have submitted my first novel to it for consideration of publishing.

The way this works is that, for 30 days, Amazon account holders can nominate my book for publication. You do this my going to https://kindlescout.amazon.com/, finding my book, and clicking on the "Nominate me" button.

It's in the "Science Fiction & Fantasy" row, which is the 7th row from the top. Last I saw it, it was on the third page. It's entitled Wee by Michael W. Boggs. You can read the first 5,000 words.

After 30 days, nominations are closed. Kindle Scout then has another couple of weeks to decide whether it wants to publish Wee or not. If it does, everyone who nominated me gets a free copy. I get an advance of $1,500, plus royalties. :deal:

Thank you, everyone. :high5:

Found it. :)

I have to ask: Are you able to do any edits at this point? I found some things that must have slipped past the proofreader.

Mike "Dubya" Boggs. The Boggster. What a great name, I'm jealous. Nominated your book ofc.

Almost assuredly I can do edits. "Chosen books are given a professional edit, with the author free to accept or reject changes." I infer from this that I can make my own changes at that time.

Of course. if Kindle Scout chooses not to publish  I can do anything I want.

Hang on. Hang on. Not so fast.

How do you pronounce Tâelè?

I'll have to look at that. How many nominations are usually required?

Done :)

I've never heard of this before. I will make use of this myself in the future.

Your book isn't my kind of thing but I've nominated it. The quality's good enough to justify it. :)

Done!

Go to Google Translate, type "Tâelè" into spot for the word to get translated, click the little speaker icon. :yup:
OK. I did that, and some female says it's pronounced Tie-AL-Lay. Which I wouldn't have rendered as Tâelè, myself. But then the francophile in me never did understand what a grave accent on a final e meant anyway.

It's a very clever marketing strategy by Kindle. They bring in herds of new talent, who in turn convince their friends to "nominate" them--which is lots of free advertising.

I believe that, without the grave accent, the last letter pronounced would be the "l." With the grave accent, the last letter pronounced is the "e."

Some practical questions.
  1. How did you do the copy writing?
  2. How much did it cost?
  3. What else did you do to prepare for initial release?
  4. Did you beta test?
  5. If so, with whom?
