[RD] War in Gaza: News Thread

Otzma Yehudit the name of the Itamar Ben Gvir party does actually mean “Jewish Power.” I think it’s fine to refer to them by their real name. But do they really represent “the Jews” or even “Jewishness?"

I have no issue with calling actual organizations by their names, but that is different than using a term like "Jewish lobby" as a catch-all.

The whole point of a chauvinistic and we’ll say fascistic organization like Otzma Yehudit or any number of “Jewish” lobbies trying to effect Zionist settlement and destruction of Palestine is that they associate themselves with the entire cultural identity of the Group to establish themselves as foremost exponents and protectors of That Group. They are playing for control and authority and their bid for that is being tough enough to take down their foes and traditionalist enough so that you never question they really love the old ways.

It is the same exact kind of mixed responsibility that all societies have. At the end of the day these right wingers want to take credit for the entire culture themselves, personally. But despite the successful enterprises of some colonists there are many Jews who do not and never really can belong to their project, and there will always be those who seek to exploit them for their cultural pride.

All of this is why to use a term like "Jewish lobby" is to play into their hands.

Obviously if Jewish organisations wish to call themselves Zionist its not racism but merely an expression of their political goals, if anyone else says Zionist its clearly a racist term.
Since the goal of Zionism has largely been achieved (we now have a nation called Israel, like it or not), I'm not sure what the point of saying "Zionist" these days is. Not as a derogative in any case. If you are content with having some sort of formal diplomatic relations with the nation of Israel then...brace yourself...you are a Zionist. It seems more often used by those who think the whole idea of Israel is still in doubt or something. As if it was still a question of the moon being made of cheese or something. And I think those who use it otherwise aren't truly aware of this perception.

Ben Gzir threatens to withdraw from Netanyahu govt if they don't keep smashing Gaza (Rafa).

Seems Netanyahu has paused the attack due to International (US) pressure.

I won't be reading this, I'm getting too upset by the news now, but putting it here in case anyone else wants to

Frpm the Sydney Morning Herald: Israeli military shooting at vehicles marked with aid organisations again, this time a UNICEF convoy.

Australian former reporter, now aid worker, shot at in Gaza

A West Australian former reporter now working for the United Nations Children’s Fund is lucky to be alive after being shot at in Gaza.

Tess Ingram, who worked for the Australian Financial Review’s Perth bureau and then this masthead before moving to New York to work for the United Nations in 2022, was in a UNICEF vehicle waiting to enter the north of Gaza when it was hit by live ammunition.

Thinking this targeting of aid workers might go like the bombing of hospitals has gone, moving from "oh of course they'd never deliberately target them" to it happening constantly and routinely and just being accepted.

Zionist twitter is saying that Hamas tricked Israel into attacking the WCK convoy so I mean yeah the capacity to just blame Hamas for anything Israel does seems basically infinite

They have been 'tricked ' into 'precision ' killings of so many ppl now they must be complete idiots.

The most senior IDF commander dismissed for his role in the drone strike which killed seven aid workers in Gaza is a settler who signed an open letter in January calling for the territory to be deprived of aid, The Telegraph can reveal.

A senior British lawyer said its contents – including a call for a “siege” of Gaza City – should be considered by the Israeli authorities investigating the killings.

Ireland is a country of only a few million people and a small island nation. Yet it speaks louder, clearer and more ethically than the nominal major countries.
The Irish went through British occupation, among the European countries they're the one of the very few who have so recent a memory of foreign occupation and atrocities and what it means to fight against it

The catch here is Hamas has become the equivalent of "communist" or "socialist" during the Cold War. People's brains short-circuit at the mention of the name and it acts like blinders for Israel's atrocities.

I swear we're seeing the formation of the boomers of tomorrow.

You mean in the US?
