    Renaming a unit

Hey all, haven't posted here in a while. I used to do mods for Civ 4, but I have never even looked into modding CiV. I want to make one cosmetic change though; I'd like to rename the Giant Death Robot. Could somebody take a moment to give me a tutorial? Thanks for any help. Moved to main forum...

    Difficulty rating doesnt matter

I keep seeing people remarking about difficulty rating which other posters are playing. C'mon, guys (and gals), let's just stop with this. Myself, I play anything from warlord to emperor just depending on how much challenge I feel like having. The point is; it's a game - people play it to have...

How big of an army/navy do you build?

I'm curious how others are gearing up in their games. Myself, I don't seem to build a lot of troops, and I move them around in groups for wars. Probably makes my games take longer doing it that way. In the early game, I generally only build one garrison unit per city (typically ranged units)...

    Nutmeg and Jewelry

I keep seeing the AI propose to ban these luxuries, yet I have never seen them. Does jewelry refer to the artifacts you dig up? Those really aren't luxuries (and don't give happiness). What's the deal?

    This land is my land..

"...this land is my land. Nobody else can settle on MY land." "I wiped out Russia because they settled on my land THIS land was made for only ME!"

    Two empty landmasses?

Check out this game I just started. I am on a landmass alone, and there is a second one nearby. How bizarre. There are 7 other civs, by the way, and I've only met one of them when a ship passed by.

    Invisible rivers

Has anyone else noticed how there are rivers which you cannot see in some places? I have had tiles that say they are river tiles, but there is no river. I have also had troops cross invisible rivers and lose the rest of their movement.

    Troops on my border?

This happened in my last two games. I had an AI come to me with the complaint that I had a lot of troops on their border. Thing was, in both cases, the complainant wasnt even on my continent. And in the second instance, I had only met that particular AI through one of his wandering ships - I...

    Selling specialist buildings

Can somebody tell me how you sell specialist buildings. I figured out how to sell other buildings, but the specialists buildings dont show up in the building tab, only above in the specialist building tab. But there I cannot click them to sell - only right click to get the pedia on them.

    Trying out all the civs

Well, was offline for the last week and a half. Which meant no phone either, since I use Vonage. Actually had to crack the phone book* a few times. *(For you young folks, that's the yellow thing you walk by on the porch and occassionally trip over. It's actually a huge list of phone numbers...

Hey, I finally finished a game.

Started playing day one, but just now completed my first game. Kept starting games and then abandoning them because I felt I could do things better another way. Got a diplomatic victory with America on a large continents map. Took out Napoleon pretty early, because he was on my...

    Discuss selling buildings

From the reported patch notes: So, at first, like many I said ALRIGHT! Sounds like a great addition. Now, after thinking about how it is worded there, I said - Wait a minute...obsolete buildings? I wasnt aware they were obsolete. I thought all culture buildings stacked, as would happiness...

    Tip: Control cultural border expansion

Some of you may have already noticed this, but I thought I'd post to let others know. You can influence where your border pops by buying tiles. Each time you purchase a tile, the purple 'next expansion' tiles can change. This can help you get resources that are in the 3rd ring, by buying a tile...

    Talk about capitulation

Playing a game as America, and I have Egypt and Persia on my continent (huge map). Persia is up north someplace beyond Egypt, and Egypt was city spamming. I have about 7 cities, and Egypt had around 20. Mine are spread apart to allow full growth, and he has his packed closer together. Knowing...

    Settler Show City Radius

This option was handy in Civ IV, and with the new hex maps it would make it easier for both new players and old Civ'ers like myself who are still trying to not overlap our city radii. Also, need the option to skip the intro movie (or help me find the config file). Right now when my game...

    Warlords to Vanilla retro mod

Ok, I'm just beginning to work on a mod to incorporate the basic changes from Warlords into Vanilla Civ4. Why? Couple reasons: I dont like the fractal map generation in Warlords. It seems there are many more desert and flood plains tiles than the fractal maps in Vanilla. Also, I hate the mid...

    Rathelon's Compilation Mod

This is the mod I use for my single player games. Most of it was done by myself, with some inspiration from posts here. Some components were taken from folks here, and I'll credit those people below. I made a lot of small changes, and I'll try to list everything, but might forget a thing or two...

    Fort improvement

Perhaps this has already been done, but what I'd like to mod into my Civ version are forts that have a zone of control around them. That is, they extend your cultural border one tile around them in each direction. This would make forts extremely useful, because you could use them to essentially...

    Some advice from modders, please.

I'm trying to create a few more changes for Civ IV, and I think most of them are fairly simple XML modifications, but I'd appreciate some input from the more experienced guys here. I've done modding for Freelancer in the past (mostly just editting .ini files and .dll files - no modeling), and...
