Im Planning to Play a game today with Ethiopia, and i got some few problems.
the Last time I play as Ethiopia, I've been the first at everything (besides military) on Ancient - Medieval, but when I enter Renaissance I've been drop from rank 1 to rank 6 or 8. I have founded my 2nd city on Medieval, and the other 2 on Renaissance.I pick Tradition, coz o thought it would be best for Ethiopia. Piety and Aesthetics Also. But I never win that game. So today before I would start another game as Ethiopia I want to hear Experts Opinion, those who always play as Ethiopia. I don't want to make my "Hall of Fame" a "Hall of Shame".

P.S. Because its Christmas, I will not go for a Conquest Victory. Maybe a Diplomatic or Cultural. But im planning DoW, that's make the game keep going.

thoughts?, Opinions?, Suggestions?

You aren't Venice and this isn't a OCC - Ethiopia or not you need to found cities much faster than that. You are probably falling behind because without you aren't generating :c5science: fast enough - keeping up on beakers at the least, if not getting ahead on them, is one of the most important aspects of any game.

So should i not choose Tradition as a Starter Policy?

No, Tradition is probably the best for any playstyle. You'll just have to suck it up and hard-build a couple settlers, or buy them with Gold. Two cities in Medieval is very slow and you're running terrible risks. Better to have 3-4 by medieval so you can have other cities getting things done while you build Wonders, etc.

What level do you play on? On Immortal/Deity, no matter how hard you try you'll always have less cities than the AI.

If you're playing on Prince/King/Emperor, just pick your city spots nicely. If you see a great spot, by all means settle it. Ethiopia has this sort of deal: If you get good city spots, you have an advantage growing and developing. If you don't get good city spots, you have an advantage taking the good city spots of others. Don't be afraid to settle on a good spot just cause it might screw your UA over.

Then, when you settle good cities/take others cities if you can't, settle in and go for science like you always should. That'll certainly fetch you a victory on lower levels.

Always take tradition, it provides everything you need early on.

Ethiopia is a great civ because you can either go VERY tall via religion from stele & because of defensive bonuses, or VERY wide via religion from stele, great stuff.
Now Tradition is always a good idea unless you're trying something different. Because Tradition is amazing. Now after that I recommend going Piety, Aesthetics/Patrongae (Cultural/Diplomatic), Commerce, Freedom/Order (Tall/Wide). But be warned people won't like you if you go wide. Also I generally recommend 3-4 Cities by Renaissance preferably Medieval.
Also Merry Christmas! Or whatever you celebrate!

If I rush building Cities on Medieval i might not use my UA properly.

I love playing as Ethiopia. Tradition is best for Ethiopia and I happen to think tall is the best way to play them.

Their UB should go up in every single one of their cities, of course. You should have no problem getting a religion with them and you should blaze through early policies.

Because you go Tradition, you can't count on the settler from going Liberty. By turn 60 or so you should try and have three cities down. If you only have two, that's okay, too. But, really, you should try for three. When you build settlers, switch all the tiles you're working over to production so you can pop out the settler as fast as possible. Once the settler is done, switch it back to growth or whatever tiles you had locked in before.

It's easy to forget about beakers with Ethiopia because it seems like your focus should be funneled toward religion and culture. But, you really can't afford to fall behind in tech. If you do, you're ripe for the picking. Don't forget about science. Design your religion to give you a science boost, but only if it makes sense to do so and isn't at the expense of something else that would give you more utility given whatever settling situation you spawn when you start the game.

Growth in your cities is important. Pop some specialists into science slots whenever and as soon as possible to give you a tech edge.

I really enjoy playing as Ethiopia. I hope you have fun!
