up yours.
You're Ugly, Too (that's the name of the film). The lead actor should be quite familiar to some, as Johnboy.

Arrival and Passengers, both from 2016, over the weekend. The former was confusing but enjoyable, the latter was disturbing and a bummer. I might rewatch Arrival to see if it makes any more sense the 2nd time around. Passengers just kind of made me sad, not quite worked up enough to be angry. Thank god I didn't watch it with a date.

That bad, huh? It looked like something I might vaguely be interested in.

Same here. I thought maybe Moon-meets-The Martian-meets-The Notebook. Or something. Pratt and Lawrence are charming as heck, and I was willing to overlook most of the plot holes, but the ending just left me feeling queasy. Not, like, Lars von Trier-queasy, but I felt like I needed to shower.

I remember watching "antichrist", holding my crotch in absolute terror, unable to really process what I was witnessing. I felt physically sick even an hour after watching. Great movie, definitely one of my favorites.

Crotch ? Dosnt the alien burst out from the chest ?
I keep thinking of him as Bishop from Aliens

I watched Fire on the Plains, not as scarey as when I first watched it when I was a kid but it left a powerful impression on me. Consider the ww2 Japanese war film with its graphic and shocking war, suffering and ending.

^I think Antichrist had only a 5-min reveal/plot going for it (itself obscure, though)
Spoiler :
i suppose the kid committed suicide to be free of his mother?
and some nice forest scenes with chaos reigning, but overall i didn't like it.
I also don't see any bonus to having porno scenes in non-porn movies (if you can call his work non-porn by now :D ). Afaik the genitals are added with cgi/whatever.

Clearly it is to make the viewer uncomfortable to the highest degree. Which the movie succeeded in, better than most other movies. Only Eraserhead comes close imo.

Actually, I remember watching Gallo's "The Brown Bunny" with a shy girl from class, about five years ago. The movie had an extremely graphic, five minute long blowjob scene. It was the (second) most awkward moment of my entire life. Just five minutes of complete silence, not a single laugh from either of us, just slurping sounds emanating from the TV. Needless to say nothing went down after. She picked the movie, obviously unaware of its explicit content

Yeah, else someone might be asking young Yung to "please have seat" :D

And speaking of Yung, apparently there is a new movie by Cronenberg, supposedly about Yung and Freud, but from the trailer alone it seems this has absolutely zero relation to reality. Going by the autobiography of Yung i read, anyway :)

I haven't seen the Antichrist but a couple of years back I decided to give Nymphomaniac a shot. The movie seemed as a sort of way for von Trier to vent his frustrations, at least that's the impression I was left with after I finished it. As if his train of thoughts was nothing more than ''If i was a girl I'd bang everyone, the end''.

I loved Gallo's Buffalo 66

That movie is hot garbage. Stay away. It's essentially 50 Shades of Grey in a historical setting.

I'll watch Nymphomaniac this week or next week and report back.

I've only seen the firs part of Nymphomaniac. A friend of mine did see it and said that it was basically the same as the first one.

Just watched Buffalo 66. Nice movie about (almost) the biggest loser in the universe.

I just returned from seeing Alien Covenant. Quite gory, but all in all a pretty good movie. You sort of need to see its prequel Prometheus for a lot of it to make sense, but it does clear up quite a bit of the mystery from that movie.

Anything else I could say here would be a spoiler, so I'll hold my tongue. I must say though that I did enjoy it.

Whiplash. Well, that was intense, and disturbing, though in a weirdly everyday kind of way. One you got over the shock you realised how incredulous it really was though (movies often are, but this one has an air of supposed realism). Developing creative skills just doesn't work that way.
