I once popped Bronze Working from a hut then got Iron Working from the next hut. That was quite an abberation though, I usually get a free map or gold. :(

Yep, I have disbanded quite a few cities.

If I am using a Civ that has mining as a starting tech and I am surrounded by forests.

I stick as much ram as I could in first. I am running it on a 768MB, 1.6GHz P4, 128MB ATI graphics card on one machine and it runs a little slow near the end but not bad. My laptop, Pent M 1.86GHz, 1G RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X300 runs great unless I run window mode, then it slows down...

Yes; for forests you need bronze working; for jungles you need iron working EDIT: I forgot to mention jungles don't give hammers.

It works fine for me. I can close them anytime I want.

I've played 4 games. Catherine, Caesar and Monte have been in every one. Mansa was in 3 of the 4. I've never seen France, but am playing as Nap in my current game. I saw England - Victoria in my very first game (settler).
