How do you open?

Depends on civ /start. But on continent map even if I do not have hunting I tend to go with Warrior(research set on humting), scout, scout, worker. setler or chop an other worker and then setler with rpobubly warrior in between.

I found scouts very usefull early on. First they let you collect many huts - money and tech. Then they let you discover terran, meat all rivals beofr barbarians spawn in every corner. Secret to use them is to dance them. Even late, with 2 movements they can dance by making only 1 movement/turn and retreat if come to contact. Is any survive they go to fog busting sentery duty.

In singleplayer game, especially at epic or marathon speed, and if I start with mining, i prefer starting with 2 workers (the 2nd is chopped) then warrior then settler (chopped) then warrior then a third worker (chopped)

In multiplayer game, chopping worker is much less efficient (because we usually play at quick speed) and cities, workers have to be defended in case you face a warmonger (as soon as i meet someone i declare war and i prevent him from improving his land or chopping forest), sometimes city is undefended...
So in multiplayer i build a warrior first, then a worker then it really depends on the circumstances.

Again, the correct answer is:

Depends on
Your Civ
Other Civs
Your location
Their location
Your win goal

agree.
theres no way to standardise your first round builds by once for all civs/situations. it realy depends on the game your gona play.

I research Mining>Bronze Working whilst I'm building a Worker. Once BW comes in, the Worker is often finished, and I use him to chop rush another worker, then I use both Workers to chop rush a Settler.

Then I'll take the quickest route to Alphabet depending on the resources I have, and hopefully trade for stuff I've missed and go for CoL.

That's my usual start.

Do you typically start w/ bronze working?
If I am using a Civ that has mining as a starting tech and I am surrounded by forests.
