I'm sure it's a nice country when it comes to wild life, sights etc... I wonder if those ruins are sort of spectacular or not. Have you seen Adulis ruins?

It's not as if I am going to visit Eritrea anytime soon. But actually 2 of my friends visited it last year. So it's possible, oneday.

I was feeling rather miserably lately, but yesterday and today I finally made myself do SOMETHING about my thesis. I really should finish it. It drags me down. I must finish it to start a new chapter of my life, but it's so much work. You see, I don't mind hard work etc, when I feel I'm moving forward, when I have clear objectives etc. But with this work, I almost feel like the more I work, the more far I am from finishing it... ah.

You know, Sweden seems to be a haven for oriental christians. I believe it is one of the biggest centers of Assyrian / christian Arab emigration. So christian Eritreans just sort of fit this image
Anyway, when it comes to mixed christian-muslim countries, christians always seem to emigrate to the West easier. I guess they feel less enemity towards it, and they are more often accepted as emigrants. That's the case of Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Iraq... Sometimes it's sad, because christians in Palestine and Iraq are sort of dieing out.

How can Eritrea afford a big army? What's the main source of income?

I do recall there was a conflict between Yemen and Eritrea. Well, it looks like Eritrea got owned there. Its claims were stronger, I guess: the islands belonged to italian Eritrea... why did Eritrea agree to relinquish (?) its claims? Funny, at wiki it seems Yemenis blamed Israel for eritrean success in taking one of the islands... no comments.

It looks like Eritrea has no direct friends when it comes to its neighbours, does it... Still, Sudan has enough problems with Dar Fur, Equatoria, and Chad; Eritrea with somalia, Yemen with itself... so there's no danger on the horizon, is there.

Is EIJ a strong force?

Are muslims ethnically different from christians in Eritrea? Are majority of Eritreans in Sweden muslims, or christians?

Afewerki is a christian, right? How do christian-muslim relations look in Eritrea? Wasn't multi-religiousity a problem to unite Eritreans against aethiopian overlordship? And why were Eritreans so unhappy with being part of Aethiopia in the first place? Well, it's a bit impolite for me to ask, no country wants to lose its independance, not even Belarus, but, well, Eritrea was not independant before... And I believe there was some common history before turkish conquest of the coastal areas etc... so why was it so bad? Was it that mengistu's gouverment was so horrible to entire Ethiopia, or was Eritrea particurarily mistreated?

Sweden seems to be the goal of many refugees/emigrants of eastern christian communities. It has a thriving Assyrian population as well.
Does your family (in Eritrea and in Sweden) know about yout atheism? When did you last visit Eritrea? Is the attitude towards Ethiopia still hostile?
I think Eritrea was quite lucky. It is the only successful independance movement in Africa since the fall of colonialism, I believe... But Tigre province in Ethiopia would like to secede as well, right? Ogaden (?) too...
Is Eritrea a safe place for tourism?
