Hi,

Since the release of Gathering Storm, the game began to freeze and I have to kill the process through task manager. Some patches seems to offer better stability, but it always crashed from time to time, although I have been able to skip some crashes sometimes.

Now, it's almost impossible to play, I play on huge map, Deity and usually fractal map. I have several mods like Bridge mod, Perfect world and a few others, but playing without any mod the game crashes too. It begins with a stutter, and then freezes or crashes. I know this is just a game, but Firaxis please, you didn't fix the constructor lag, the community did it. So please try to fix this huge problem that is present since many many months.

If anyone have any answer or solution please let me know.

sorry for the rant...

I also already experienced several crashes during my very first game as Vietnam, all mods disabled. It's obviously less stable than before.

I've not experienced this on PC myself (2500+ hours in) but on PS4 it is still unplayable due to turn 200+ repeating Blue-Screen crashes.
2K/Firaxis do not appear to care, however.

The game crashed for me yesterday for the first time ever. Standard map, no mods. I was playing with Monopolies, Heroes and Shuffle modes.

I've been having crashes all weekend. But I am probably not a good data point. I've been having slow loading issues with Civilization for many months. I think my pc, specifically the hard drive, is too old. I usually play on 4 or 2 player maps. I tried a two player standard map to try to get the achievements. It crashed about turn 70. I tried to load the autosave, and it also crashed. (Before getting to the map). I tried a duel size map, and it crashed on turn 1. It was really slow and froze several times before that. I'm going to "verify game files" and try to use the windows tools to clean up the hard drive and try again. I was going to try without any mods, but I see people having problems with and without. I might just have to wait till CPU & GPU prices return to normal and build a new computer.

My CPU dates from 2010 and I don't have any crashes. I never see it being the bottleneck in the task manager. My GPU is recent though, but it's "just" NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. I think if you have the game installed on a SSD with 40 GB+ free space, 8GB RAM, and a good GPU you should be fine as I am.

Are you using DX11 or 12? This can solve crashes also. I use 11.

DX11. My pc is also about 10 years old. I know I could get a newer GPU and an SSD and more memory. But for a lot of newer games, my I5-750 does not meet minimum specs. So I am ready to build a new machine.

Ok, Now I am playing Inca, huge map and deity difficulty. DX12. No crash so far!.

It seems the cause is the mod "perfect world". I was playing with the mods deactivated, but I have deleted every folder and my tests are suggesting that mod is causing the crashes.

First game with today's patch aaaand...first crash after 30 turns. Had to use task manager to get back to windows.

If your freezes and crashes seem to be related to something graphics, like panning the screen repeatedly, or even leader dialogues, try Strategic View. I had freezes and crashes like you described, and when I checked my memory usage, I found that sooner or later, the game would develop a memory leak. Then I could have the game in the background, just watch the memory usage, and see it climb to over 96 GB, at which point my system froze because I was out of swap space. I could reload from a save, and it'd be fine for some turns, then it'd happen again.

This hasn't happened since I switched to Strategic View. You can set your Interface Options to start in that view. It takes a while to get used to, but eventually you forget what you used to see.

Very interesting. Never saw that on Windows 10, but I'll keep an eye on it now.
(big lol for the 96GB ^^)

Although I had to play

I believe you, although if I had to revert all the time to that view, I would probably rather revert back to Civ 5 or 4.

Are you guys, who crash, using any major graphic mods like Warfare Expanded, City Styles, Urban Complexity? Or a combination of those?

The game keeps crashing for me more often after the February 2021 Update. No mods.
My PC is from 2019. i5-8300H, GTX1050Ti, 16GB RAM, Windows 10. I've updating all drivers regularly. I'm running the game on DirectX 11.

I don't see anything suspicious in the logs
