Not sure if it is just my imagination working overtime or not. I recently downloaded the patch (I took a break from playing the game for awhile, got tired of chucking it across the room) and the game seems a bit more difficult. The ai seems to attack in "stacks" more and they seem more aggressive. I get this feeling the ai can make military units more quickly now too.

Just my over active imagination? :scan:

the AI is definitely more aggressive post-1.17 patch. I've also noticed the "stacking" strategy used by the computer, it now has a tendency to pile up troops on my borders and attack without provocation. I tend to play conquest games so this actually plays more to my style.

After weeks of playing with 1.17, and reading all the many posts that hate what it has done to the game, I am removing 1.17 as soon as I go off line. The only reason I didn't before was due to stack movement. So, I go back to 1.16. Enough of that "Human vs. The World" crap.

Give me a decent mod with stack movement, and forget the tech trading and other nonsense as seen in the hated 1.17.

Human vs the world. Exactly the feeling I'm getting. Sure love to have a long lasting relationship with a civ, especially when I'm being freaking nice to them.

Where can I find them mods .. ??

you people are wrong, i play in MONARCH dificult and i have no problem with the AI civs, i normally manage to ally with 80% of the civs and make war alliances in my favor against an enemy. You have to know how to play diplomacy, in 1,17patch you must see diplomacy as something important, for example if you are weak and an AI civ demands something, then u HAVE to give what they want, if u dont then he will declare war against u and will get some allies vs u... but most of the people dont give the AI what they demand and thats why they start a war and it ends up being a human vs world war. Give the ai what they want,, then u get strong and they will stop doing that.

People are often confused on this issue. Your money is discounted on higher levels, so the AI will expect more for trades, and demand more to keep the peace. So on a high level, an AI may sell you a tech for 500, but might sell the same tech to another AI for just 100.

You are right JoseM. It is a choice of playing level. The higher the level, the stronger you must be to avoid trouble, and the richer you must be to afford entry into the global market. If the universal opinion of the AIs is that you are a weak patsy, then expect universal AI contempt.

Consider playing at a lower level.

So, I removed 1.17 last night and played with 1.16. It was SO much better! No more crazy demands from extortionist psycho leaders; no more of that crazy tech trading, etc.

If Firaxis had any sense they'd have given us 1.16 with stack movement. Hell, they never should have released the game without stack movement.

Where can i find the 1.16 patch ? i use to play original version but in my last game i needed the air superiority which didnt work and listening from you friend i dont want to try 1.17.

come down, JoseM! Sure 1.17 is playable, and can be fun, but it`s pretty arrogant just to say people are complaining. Perhaps, if you read the posts again carefully, you will see that most complaints are right on target when compared to what Firaxis promised CivIII would be like.

Peacfull construction? Not really with 1.17! You end up loosing or need a real lucky break because the AIs are so agressive! I mean, when was the last time Venezuela paid tribute to China?????

Tech advantage strategy? Note, I`m not saying excessive tech broker, just advantage! Like planning early on to get a huge Horse military, then beeline for Mil Tradition and conquer? Or make sure you out-happy everyone by securing the techs and wonders ofr it, then be the one with WLTKD production? Not really with 1.17! You can end up lots of tech behind and your units are outdated before they reach the enemy! Also, tech lead strategies make you prone to extortion since you end up with fewer units (money problem!)

Good relations to keep you alive? Not with 1.17! I see the AI break treaties more often when I`m always honest than when I am a tradebreaking warmonger. The only diplo option they now is FEAR!

Replay World History!???? That`s what I read in an ad! Now, seriously, that was the biggest joke ever about CivIII!

So, JoseM, it is good to read that you have found a playing style that works, but I`d really like to be able to play different styles, ang that`s not really possible anymore with 1.17!
