Question:

You can't attack someone if you have traded with until ten turns after your last trade.

Are giving tribute or giving gifts also included in this?

If so, you could F with the AI on Cultural deity for example by giving 1 gold every 10 turns or so.

I'm probably wrong, am I?

If they ask for a tech/gold/resource it counts , it doesnt however if u just gift it to them if they dont ask for something like in your example.

Im also not positive that u get the 10turns if a pleased/friendly civ asks for a tech/gold/resource , i think not.

As others have pointed out. The AI needs to ask you for gift or tribute to get the 10 turns peace. However, you can ask the AI for gifts if their attitude is pleased or better, and this will also trigger 10 turns of peace. This can be useful if Shaka is nearby, and just ended a war with a neighbour. At pleased, he can still decide to attack you, but if you ask for 10 gold and he accepts, then you are immune to attack for 10 turns, and in the mean time he may decide to DoW someone else instead.

Or you can make a demand, and if it is successful you still get the 10 Turns Peace Treaty - although it's useless. :P
