100% research all the time?

The thing about war-mongering in Republic is either have short wars (ie 20-30 turns) as others have pointed out, or have many luxuries hooked up if you like extended warfare. I tend towards extended wars as once I engage an AI I typically war until they are conquered. In some games I've had my lux slider as high as 40% on happiness to offset the war weariness because I only had a few luxuries hooked up at the time.

I still feel Communism gets a bad rap on these boards, and recommend any war-monger or those that like larger maps give it a try. The lack of war-weariness and improved production in your non-core cities make it worthwhile.

The one time I tried it I killed my high shield cities & wound up with a bunch of crappy 9 and 10 (and 6) shield cities. I didn't need any extra production on those terms, and I couldn't concentrate on anything, especially building armies. Especially since I would have had to build barracks & whatnots to get the cities producing anything at all. Yes, for a huge map when the game is not close to half over, I can see that this might be a viable, even necessary, strategy. But I can't see it ever on a standard map, unless play at higher levels than Emperor is radically different for warmongering. For a standard map all I need is 9-10 core cities & half a dozen semi-core cities, with a flock of specialist farms in order to Dominate. Anything more is overkill, in my experience.
