My game did not end when I hit 100,000 culture. I played several more turns, stopping at 102,634.

I reloaded and played again from the turn before 100 K with the same result.

I checked both the 4000 BC save and a recent save using the save game modifier. Both have cultural victory enabled.

Any suggestions?

Thank you Ginger_Ale. Obviously this one is new to me.

They have over 59,000 (from many wonders).

Since they have been building battleships while I have been building libraries, I may be doomed.

You should try to switch over to wartime production and go on a razing spree of the nearest cultural rival. It doesn't reduce their culture, but they get less per turn so you should 'catch up' to the 2x amount faster. Either that, or try to outbuild them.

Too late. :( I don't want to give any spoiler information, so I will just say that they seem to have a zillion battleships and air craft carriers and I neglected research to build culture improvements so I am very far behind. The rival is probably far too powerful for a razing spree. It might take me 100 hours to retrieve this, which time I don't have, so I'm going to abandon this game. I suppose I might submit it as a loss with only a few hours more play.

I am not really up to emperor play yet, except in the Ancient Age, but I learned a lot in this GOTM. One of the biggest lessons is to understand the goal I am seeking with its drawbacks. When I saw a rival heading towards 50,000 culture, I should have done something about it. :crazyeye:

As a learning experience, I am going back to the points in the game where I think I made strategic mistakes, for instance failure to use the advantage that the Chinese UU provides. I am just learning that advantages of a UU or of getting to cavalry first are temporary and must be used when they are available.

That's a tough one, sparrow, but you've certainly learnt some valuable lessons. You are well on your way, as your recent QSCs show. You know how to start a game, and that's usually the harder part.

Do not switch to Wartime production by any means! This will half your own cultural output.
That's only if you mobilise, which is disabled in GOTM because it can be used as an exploit. Just building units doesn't decrease culture gained, unless you count improvements not being built.

Thanks for the kind words, Alan. I got the highest score in QSC twice starting in conquests class, which at least proves that the conquest advantages are real. My hope now is to get the best QSC playing open class. Then some day maybe a medal.
