Eh how ya doin
Have been enjoying 112 GotVEM #2 except that I've hit a bug. First social policy to honour went well. Then I killed some barbarians and got some nice culture. Then upgraded to liberty at turn 38. The social policy counter indicates 5 turns to go. At turn 43 I get another social policy notification but liberty wasn't remembered and only honour was. I don't use the options to delay social policy choice. I leave it default which *forces me* to make a decision when it arrives as per vanilla.

Check out the screenies attached. If anyone wants autosaves I can do that because it save once a turn. Logs were clean. The question is whether I am one of the GotVEM players that downloaded between 3pm-6pm and caught the premature bugged version of 112. I've done all the normal procedures to clean out previous mods and there is no other copy of VEM in the mods folder. No stress, just a game, 70,000 lines of code, a hell of a lot work and potential for bugs.

Screenshot #2: Turn 43

Sorry for not expressing myself clearly. The turn 38 screenshot is a retrospective shot of what was available when I went back through the autosaves. I had already successfully chosen honour before as the first policy choice at whatever turn 15 or something. In the actual game at turn 38, I then clicked the second policy choice to be the liberty tree. The top bar showed 5 turns to the third policy after I selected it. At turn 43 (5 turns later) when the third policy option became available, the screenshot shows that the liberty tree had still not opened. I did select a policy, because by default I must make a choice and cannot delay it. Along the top bar some lua code or something shows for a very short time when opening the social policy window. I suspect that I must have downloaded between 3pm and 6pm and it seems like some silly XML issue. More people would have noticed it I'd say by now.

Unfortunately that puts me out of the GotVEM #2 comp because I already know a lot about the start position! I'll try to reinstall VEM and wait for GotVEM #3. This reminds me of a car racing, and my car has just pulled over to the side of the track smoking. Better luck next time! If I hear nothing more, I'll try again by reinstalling version 112.

Cheers, thanks Thal.

Im pretty sure that you can play the GoTM as many times as you like, the only thing that would stop you from submitting a game is loading to an earlier save to correct a gameplay error or change some choice you made.

Why not play it through anyway and submit? It'll be interesting to hear how your replay turns out.

Thanks, ok, I'll try and fix the engine and start racing again. The Pangaea+ GotVEM is simply gorgeous and very thematic for playing as an Arab in the desert.

Cheers

I'm confused by your explanation of the screenshots. The first SS shows 50 accumulated culture, which is the amount needed for the first policy pick - it's impossible for you to have chosen honor before that (unless you hit a culture ruin?). The second SS shows 60 culture (I assume you killed some barbs and/or picked up a cultural CS because you're still only making 2 culture per turn, and 60/2=30 turns, not 5) the amount needed for the second policy. The only thing that seems off to me is that you should've gotten your first policy at turn 25 because the palace gives 2 culture per turn, iirc. Maybe Thal enabled policy saving and forgot to document it?

The normal vanilla rules are that you play each GotM exactly once, full replays are not allowed. I don't know if this is changed for GotVEM.

Eh Seek, yeah that's right, I chose Honour as the first policy at somewhere around turn 25. Then I was playing around till turn 38 (screenshot) and I think some barbarian action. I then clicked liberty, enjoyed the extra culture from liberty and some barb killing, bring me to turn 43 (screenshot). Opened up the social policy window to find that liberty had not opened and some strange lua type code in the top bar that disappear and I cannot screenshot it.

I think I'm the sucker who downloaded between 3pm-6pm and so I'll go through the motions once again and repeat my steps with a fresh download.

Thanks for the interest.
Cheers

EDIT: I've reinstalled, verified, decached etc and all is good now. I should have picked up that something was wrong earlier, because I was getting +12 culture per barbarian kill! After reinstall it's back to +3/4 or so.

If it was a little vague, what Txurce is saying is you can play the GotM as many times as you want, but only the first playthrough can be submitted for high scores. I do a lot of fine-tuning for GotM maps to make them more fun than a purely random map. :)

That's really clear after these first two efforts. It makes the games much more fun in terms of choices and challenges. Now that we've settled on having a preset Victory Condition, you'll probably be able to do even more in terms of choice of AI rivals.
