Before you start jumping into the discussion, guess where it happenned: 'Murica? China? Russia?

No, it happened in the otherwise 'liberal' Europe. The Netherlands of all fudging places in the world! Apparently, poor kid tried to escape his isolation cell (yes, we lock up children in isolation cells). The police was dispatched, with two officers and a dog. An overreach of massive proportions, to say the least.

Note that the Netherlands is actually no stranger to psychiatric abuse. Fred Spijkers, an employee of the Dutch royal marine was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia for whisteblowing activities surrounding dangerous mines.

Give cops a taser and they will use it willy-nilly, with no thought to the age or physical or mental condition of the person they use it on.

Still better than giving them all guns. Your point was driven home to me by the chief of my community college's police when I used the word 'non-lethal' to describe tasers. He pointed out there really are no non-lethal tools for police work, just 'less than lethal' ones. I appreciate the distinction.

Kinda like the way a lot of cops use guns....

Since I can't read Dutch, any chance of giving a bit more detail to this story? In particular I'm confused as to what this "isolation cell" is. It doesn't appear to be a police cell, since presumably there'd be no need to "dispatch" anyone to deal with that.

Boy escaped from his isolation cell. The police was dispatched and went all-in on him assuming that he was dangerous due to the fact he escaped from an isolation cell.

In the Netherlands, psychiatric patients are kept routinely in police cells. In this case, however, the isolation cell was part of a psychiatric asylum, which are often offer much worse conditions compared to penitentiary cells.
