14 Minute E3 Video with Ed - new gameplay

Thanks. That's a very good quality video of the livestream.

Overall, civ6 is looking fantastic both in terms of visuals and new gameplay!!

Gotta love how he ignores the Beyond Earth-Part of the question towards the end. :D

Yeah I noticed that. One thing that civ6 and BE have in common is placing districts and wonders on the main map. But overall, I imagine that Ed Beach was so focused on his own design goals for civ6 that he did not really have time to look at BE. Plus BE is a scifi setting so it does not really relate much to civ. Things like affinities and the tech web would not make sense in a historical civ game.

BE has Districts and hex-based Wonders? I, uh, I don't think that's the case. It handles things exactly like CiV did, with Wonders represented on and around the city hex. Affinities put a nice spin on the city graphics, but it wasn't anything new compared to how different CiV cities could look over time.

Not districts of course but BE did have hex based wonders. The victory wonders like the emancipation gate and the Beacon took up an entire hex and the player did have to select the hex before starting construction of the wonder. That mechanic is the same as in civ6.

The districts just look like the next step in evolution from Civ4 (e.g. using a Great Scientist in a city to get an academy as building in the city) over Civ5 (placing the Great Scientist's academy as a tile improvement outside the city) to Civ6 (directly build a science district outside the city core tile).

Beyond Earth has had some influence on Civ 6. The main one being the new agenda system which is very similar to the Rising Tide change to diplomacy. They looked upon it as an experiment and took a few of the ideas but Ed wouldn't want to talk about it. He didn't work on BE and it wasn't very popular so keeping it at a distance is fine.
