147.4 Few minor bugs

Well, it seems odd that both Civs had all their settlers captured by turn 145, and it's certainly the first time anything like this has happened to me... I'll try another game.

b. We'll claim what lands we please!

The word "claim" in diplomacy refers to gold-based border expansion. I could change those references to "purchase land."

I don't think having 'purchase land' is very natural in diplomatic discussions.

And, second game with the patch, turn 120, out of 5 other Civs, only America has a second city, and they are the only ones with a liberty policy (other than me).

In my v149 game on t156, I've only met the civs on my continent. The Mongols have 5 (used to be 6). Egypt has 3 (I sold them one). Russia has 2. So Mongols are fine, and Egypt was squeezed by me and the Mongols. This also makes sense. Russia is the odd one. They are on a peninsula and would need to work through a lot of forest to expand further, but seem to have stopped. I wouldn't draw a conclusion of a problem based on my game.

Hmm, odd. I'll try one more game. Maybe I've just been extraordinarily unlucky.

Can I ask why you sold Egypt a city?

I'm having the same experience in my game: Japan and Denmark each have one city, and Arabia has two (haven't yet checked Spain). They all seem dead in the water, I've built a huge number of wonders with little competition, only missing the 'Mids. One additional oddity - Japan has a good number of units, but they are all just hanging out in the capital's borders. I'm about to start playing again, will update more later.

@albie - I think Thal meant that he could change all references to "claim" in reference to tile purchasing to "purchase land".

@Thal - The line could also read "We'll expand wherever we please" or something like that - it's simpler to change one line than many.:)

It used to belong to the Mongols!
Haha, aren't you nice!

Anyway. Another game to 150 turns, another game where there are no second AI cities other than ones formed by Civs who chose liberty. BUT, I saw a Japanese settler captured by a barbarian. They had not chosen liberty. The plot thickens.

Right around t150, my Russians built two more cities (giving them four). One was offshore, so something clearly kicked in.

I also have had an increasingly easy time building GW's, but that' s because I'm doing very well in science with the Aztecs. (I enjoy the war-culture approach to science.)

Spain only has one city as well. I saw isabella escorting what I assume was her liberty settler, but it was surrounded by barbs and she still hasn't planted a city 10 turns later.

Higher barb activity is more likely the answer, although it's not a recent phenomenon. We boosted them for the sake of competitiveness. Maybe it's worth considering reducing their quantity and increasing their quality. I don't think it would be as fun, even though barb hunting with Honor still seems like a racket to me.

Are we sure it's Barbs? I haven't noticed an increase in Barb activity around my own Civilization. (Which was irritating, as I have been playing as Aztecs!)

Is there some easy way to reveal the map without using FireTuner?

I think barbs are part of the answer, but not the potential recent uptick. And to be clear, i would prefer to leave them alone.

IngameEditor is a great mod that acts like the Worldbuilder in Civ4. I think it essentially is the Tuner, but with much better ease of use.

Like Txuce, I've just seen double expansions from both Oda and Harun around t115. My science is doing well also, but the AIs are doing badly here. My culture is four times and my score is almost twice that of my nearest competitor (Harun in both cases). My pop is 2.3m, nobody else has broken 1m -but I'm playing as Gandhi.;)

Edit: Harun has 6 cities. I've just met Hia, he has 4. I'd also prefer leaving the barbs out of it, returning to the flavor levels of the previous version since it's clearly not working correctly, and perhaps increasing the production (only for wonders?) and science bonuses for the AI. Also, just got the "settle" warning from Oda after I plopped down a city between our caps.

Ease of use is what I wish the Tuner had. I'll try the InGame Editor.

And I agree that the AI could use a production buff, and maybe a science one. I'd inch my way up.

Agreed.

Also worth noting in my game is that with a small army of one scout, one levy, one war elephant, one sword and three triremes I'm second in military (after Japan). Perhaps the AI not building enough military is part of the barb problem.

In my Aztec v149 game, they are. I'm fourth in military, despite having one of my bigger armies (3 knights, 4 longswords, 2 crossbows).

On t218, city count is 12, 10, 9, 9 (me), 5, 4, 3, x.

By the way, Mongolia has definitely improved. They also are doing well (for the AI) in science, ranking fourth.
