Hello everyone! Have been trolling for a while now but finally figured I should post since I am playing my first game on Emperor and was wondering what you guys think of my starting location and my city layout plans. If anyone has any suggestion on a better way to settle I would appreciate the input as well. I specifically was wondering if I should maybe move city 4 up one N. Or if I should settle city 4 before city 3. I have met 2 other civs but have no idea where they are other than SE.

Thanks!

Nice start. I would settle 4 before 3 because it makes your empire more compact for battling barbs and reducing maintenance. 1N is good ... 3 more grasslands. I would settle 7 before 5 or 6 ... 7 is the 4 sugar plus wheat city. You should have IW by city 5, and that 4 sugar + wheat city will be your commercial juggernaut.

I'm really not sure how to handle this. But the main thing that strikes me is that city #2 is really low on food. You only have 1 grassland to irrigate before CS, and even after you're still stuck with tons of plains.

I would better settle it either 1S to grab, er, the food ressource (don't remember the english name sorry), or somewhere to the east to grab the sheep and/or the oasis and/or the... food ressource (same as before).

looks like a poor peninsula in any case, good luck with it

Thanks guys. I just noticed that about city2. I can grab corn if I move city2 one S. Need to get a monument out quick then so that I can go ahead and use those resorces.

I was also thinking about moving city #2 two times NE. This way, you grab copper and sheep in your inner ring, and after culture completed your fat cross you grab incense + oasis. You don't have the freshwater bonus, but you can still irrigate if you think you still have not enough food :crazyeye:

The thing being what it is, I really suck at dotmap  . And perhaps this good location would not suit future development, I don't know

I would suggest:

1. Settle city 5 first since silver is your only useable happiness res, and you need horse ASAP for chariots to help fight the barbs.

2. Right after settle the 2nd city, go Mythtcism, Mason and chop Stone Henge in capital, having stone in capital is a blessing, with a base prod of 10 you can build it in 6 turns, chop 1 tree get it for 4 turns.

3. Go for great wall in capital as well, it rids the barbs and very useful for GG spawn. With stone, chop, it should take less than 10 turns to build! If timing is good, you might get a GE from it and use him to build the Pyrimid!

4. Move your city 2 3N 1E to use the Oasis and those nice trees(wonder chop), you still get copper in it(decent prod city).

5. Settle your city 3 and make it a production city (2 food res and several hills).

6. Settle your city 4 and it is another decent production city.

7. Get those suger city if you can, if not capture it later.

7. Perhaps 1 more city in the middle of proposed city 1,2,3,4

5. Your capital is food rich, it can support some specialists, build liberary, run 2 scientists, use the GS as an Academy. You can consider turning it into a GP farm and super science city.

6. You are low on happiness, so go Alphabet, try trade for Iron working, Monochy, Math, Cal, COL

7. you have several decent production cities, so get a war going and go for a domination victory.

have fun!

It might be helpful to know which leader you are playing. A civ with an early mounted UU like Persia or Egypt might benefit more by getting the horses earlier.

Have you even met any other civ at this point? Can't tell how far the land continues to the south, but this almost looks like an isolated start which could change your strategy completely (if you decide to even continue). Even if you do find some others, it looks like they'll be quite a distance so you may not have as great an opportunity for an early war (again, unless there is something I'm not seeing to the south and you aggressively expand that way).

Stonehenge is not a bad idea with the stone nearby - and you could likely delay calendar since you don't seem to have any cottage resources all that close. Again, it would be best to know which leader you are. A creative one means you could likely skip this while one that lends itself to religion grabbing or an industrious one might be a better plan. The Great Prophet (not engineer) might be nice for a shrine...

Not the best of starts for a first effort on Emperor, but perhaps with more information on your situation the better players here (I'm a Monarch player at this point - so better people than I can comment) can help you out.

Thanks for the input guys... Mehmed and Monty are south. I wasn't able to get the sugar but I should be able to conquer it. Playing as Freddy. The barbs are slowing me down alot and I got beat to great wall. Probably going to have to abandon game as no happiness is killing me and Mehmed and Monty not the best trading partners. Will see how it goes.
