2.0 grams - The Whip and Saddle (C3C)

I think we've got 3-4 Caravels in the south... and somebody had the good sense to load a couple of armies with just 2 Riders... so we ought to be able to bring some pain against somebody soon. I like Carthage as a target....
my thought exactly but the driving question is: do we have salt?
if not, i think that will determine our next conquest. if so, then on to carthage with all haste!

edit: oops, i see we built a musket so we do :D

Yeah - and we've got a couple of pikes and such too. No biggie... plenty of Riders to go around....

BTW, I started one or two Library builds since we're doing some research. Next player can Veto if we're going to shut down research after MT.

I'm thinking we can shut down and then extort to get rails if the AI gets that far. It's not AW, thank goodness, and we we can occilate the warring unlike another 'occilating' game I'm involved in.

That wouldn't be one that has degenerated into a general "phobia" game, would it? ;)

lurker's comment: SpikeIt is still away. He should be back today, but he is probably reorganising things after his holiday

Wowza, just realised that Thunderfall has added a lurker's tag :D

Does anyone know the correct playorder and who is up? I think it is SpikeIt.
sorry barbslinger, i'm getting a little disorganized here.

I'm back and looking forward to playing some civ again. :D

Nice job knocking Monty down. It seems this game is moving along nicely now. Hannibal sure seems ripe for the pickings.

Yep, amazing how much difference the map can make

Preflight check: Change Teno build to settler and rush for 16g. Tlatelolco and Tlacopan switched to a starving settlers as well. Thought we were rid of the Aztec citizens?

Looking at the strategic situation, we have 6 caravels and 5 galleys which is enough for now.
Carthage does not have any lux but does have 2 salts, horses, iron, and could be a pain in our backyard later.
Celts have furs but are also technologically advanced. We are giving them Spices but should have got their furs in return or at least waited till we could.
Korea is even in tech.
Mongols have nothing but rocks, both in terms of useful resources and brain cells.
America has wines and dyes and are stupid as well. They can be reached safely thanks to the GLight but the lux won’t come home.
Japan is really slow, making the Americans and Mongols look like rocket scientists. They are still missing Mas and Pottery! Its 760AD for crying out loud, what happened?
Russia has dyes and are a little behind the Americans, however, they won’t reach us till Nav or Mag so no real advantage getting them right now.

Based on the above, imho, we should take out Carthage and then use that island to launch on the Celts.

I can get peace with the Aztecs for 82g, 55gpt and 1 city. Would like to take Tamuin as that will give us a foothold on the eastern Cathage island, but that deal is only for 16gpt. Apparently, it is valued by the Aztecs so I take it :D (16gpt and 12g). Looks like I got it just before Hannibal was going to take it.

Based on the above, riders start migrating southward. No galleys or caravels can move so I will have to start reinforcing Tamuin next turn.

IBT: Celts finish Leo’s

T1: 770AD Switch Shantung to Copernicus.

IBT: the palace gets 4 phalus symbols.

T2: 780AD Troops loaded but I’ll Still need a few more turns to make sure we can hold onto Tamuin. Also, realizing that we have Sun’s, I go thru all our non-Aztec towns and sell as many barracks as possible.

T3: 790AD ditto.

T4: 800AD ok, I’ll be ready next turn to launch

IBT: Palace gets some trees; Celts are building Magellan’s, hope they finish it :)

T5: 810AD Celts have Navigation, of course, so I swap WM’s and also get 87g. Scotland looks perfect for cavalry. Try to demand each city on the Eastern island from Carthage but he’s not putting up with it. He does give me 6g from a demand. Not enough, chubby.
Demand that he move his troops out or declare, and he declares for us! Last thing you’ll do, fatso. Land an 8/8 army, 11 riders, and 1 musket next to Leptis Magna.

Upgrade 1 pike in Tamuin and rush walls for 20g.

IBT: Finish Copernicus in Shantung; Palace gets a roof; no counters from Carthage, though 2 MDI move next to Tamuin.

T6: 820AD Near Tamuin: Rider kills 1 MDI (3/4)
@ Leptis Magna: Load elite* rider into Army; rider retreats from NM (2/3); rider kills NM (2/4); elite rider redlines but kills 2/3 NM; rider kills MDI flawlessly and we take the city plus 2 settlers. It also retains it’s harbor.
@ Utica: Army kills NM flawlessly. Move 5 loaded caravels into Leptis Magna. Move the settler out onto Carthage hill with 8 riders.

IBT: Celts and Carthage sign peace. Carthage drops off an NM next to Leptis Magna.

T7: 830AD Found New Shanghai
@ Utica: Army kills 1 NM and we take the city.
@ Leptis: Kill NM with rider (3/4)
Move 16 riders out to take Thevested next turn. Maybe even Leptis Minor.

T8: 840AD @ Theveste: elite* rider kill NM and we take the city.
@ Leptis Minor: rider kills NM and promotes (4/5); rider kills NM flawlessly, promotes, and we take the city.
@ Carthage: Army kills NM; Army kills NM (6/13)

T9: 850AD @Carthage: rider kills NM; rider redlines but dies to NM; rider redlines but kills NM; Army kills NM flawlessly (6/13); elite rider dies to redlined NM :(; Army kills that tough NM (4/13) and we take the city + 2 workers.
Near Hippo (new capitol): elite rider kills LB; move SoD of riders (qty 11) up to Hippo. Cannot attack this turn due to mountain.
Raze and replace Utica with New Canton.

IBT: Carthage drops off NM next to New Canton

T10: 860AD Adjust sci slider to get gold boost (Metal due next turn); Drop of 3 riders next to island town of Sabretha. Upgrade 2 galleys @ Leptis Magna
@Hippo: rider redlines, kills NM, then promotes (2/5); rider dies to NM without scratching it; rider kills NM (3/4) and we take the city + workers + settler
Near New Canton: rider kills NM (3/4)

Notes: 1. Metal due in 1T
2. There’s a galley with 1 rider E of Malinalco. It is fortified so you can see as much sea as possible next turn. It does not have enough mp’s to get to safety this turn.
3. Caravels are loaded and moving northward to take the remnants of Carthage. The NM outside of Tamuin is about all I’ve seen since an MDI and NM killed themselves against the walls.
4. There’s a settler on the former Carthage island heading east. I was planning on razing and replacing Leptis Minor next turn due to the strong resistance. You may want to get that elite rider out of there this turn.
5. Korea is looking tasty as well. I bet barbslinger could take thier island, with a bunch of cav and a combat settler or 2, in less than 4 turns. Too bad MT won't come in soon enough  That'll leave it for SpikeIt to try to meet the challange. In fact, since the Celts are building Magellans for us, it might be better to crack the Koreans 1st, seriously :)
6. I'm sending all newly built riders to Tatung. I have caravels there to send them to Russia and America.

Sorry for delaying this turns by a couple of days. Just got stacked up with SG’s.

Our new getaway spot :D

Aw, c'mon! :p 'slinger told me to build him a navy so he could go :hammer: somebody... so I did! :D ...okay ...now I'm gonna actually rad your turnlog.

Alrighty, looking good! Will play tomorrow but I'm wondering. Why don't we send a group of riders and one army to America for a side duty. We can take them down easily enough playing defensively, waiting for openings and with 2 muskets hold our beach head. this can be happening in conjunction with our primary objectives in Korea and the Celt strongholds. Hopefully that small force can finish that area off while the real battle rages in the East.
I know I said muskets but, correct me if I am wrong, we get 1 defensive per city.

i guess i should have been more specific. it was enough for what we needed to do during my turns :D i did build more and upgraded a few of the galleys (were @ 15 caravels & 1 galley now) so i didn't completely muff it

i agree, go get Russia and America. i have Caravels and horsie's waiting for you in Tatung. You can wipe them off @ your leisure :) bringing muskets is a great idea, we have no idea how many swords will hit us. however, i loaded an extra rider in the 2 unit rider army, thinking that carthage would have a lot of NM's. turns out I was wrong and now all army's are stranded :( sorry 'bout that.

defensive unit/non-horse count is: 17pikes, 5 muskets, 2 spears, and 2 swords
Total # of cities:43.

I think we're ok ;)

edit: there's another rider in sugar hill that should join you russian-american expedition. in fact, take all you can :) Moscow can build a rider ever 3T now and so many other cities are building them as well that we should be able to replenish the homeland fast enough.

Gram2.0 – 860AD –

All looks well with Carthage slowly being beat back. They should easily be gone during my turns. I don’t quite understand the Uni build going on in Canton. It goes to Pentagon. Swap a few other towns with happy trouble to markets and do a little MM. Metal is due this turn and lux is dropped to zero. +218gpt
IT – Build some goodies. MilTrad in 10.
[1] 870AD Take a crack at Sabratha with available troops and no go. Drop off 3 more troops and evac the retreating riders. Set sail for Russia with 6 riders.
IT – Nmerc dropped off on our continent.
[2] 880AD – Give a vet a crack at the Merc and he retreats. The army finishes the job. Whack Sabratha and get a leader for an army to go to America. Knock off Rusicade and see the Aztecs are at war with Carthage too as they were standing outside Rusicade.
IT – Brennus gets uppity and demands Metal. Yeah right! We get some war happiness. Moving units around. Wow, Celts are more powerful than anticipated.
[3] 890 – Get the Mongols on the Celts for Lit and currency. Look to Korea for help and he’ll get in for Metal and we can get around 12 gpt from him. I looked at getting his WM in the deal and he wants an extra 15gpt and 500g for that so there must be some more land out there. I’ll wait 2 turns and use the spices coming due in 2 turns to get a better deal. On second thought I better Korea on it now before the celts get them. Metal for alliance and we get 12gpt. I have a funny feeling he will bow out early though.
IT – Not much.
[4] 900 – The Aztecs are blocking me from the last carthage town. The army will be forming up and heading to Russia next turn.
IT- The Aztec MI wins so I have to wait.
[5] 910 – Not much. Kinda waiting on celts to make the 1st move playing zone and building a landing party.
IT – The Aztec MI moves. Bye-bye Hannibal. Build 4-5 Riders. MT in 4.
[6] 920 - Carthage is gone, but iron town is destroyed. Rush a settler in Tamuin to replace. Prematurely declare on Russia because the army caravel has no more movement points left and I want to land under the army umbrella. Sent a 2 rider stack to Oea, the little 2 tile island of the celts.
IT – A few builds.
[7] 930 – Land Near St. Petes and the dyes. I was wrong about the spices to Korea. No real deals available except for 11gpt. Land at Oea but I’m looking at a musket.
IT - Oea deals 2 LBs at the 2 riders we win both but are hurt.
[8] 940 – 4 more riders to Oea. St.Petes has a garrison I was not expecting. 7 attacks and still a fresh spear. Lets get Abe involved. He is in for lit. BTW he had +10 swords as garrison in DC. Settler heading to Tatung to go and settle on Russian lands.
IT - We lose silks and incense from Korea. We can get them back but I leave it to next leader. Russia has a slew of swords, spears heading to the American front.
[9] 950 – Moving forces around and landed 4 more riders at Oea.

These were not the best of turns. There is a settler in old Carthage lands ready to settle. I have Bejing on straight muskets for relieving Riders in foreign lands. Teno is building settlers for future plans. There are Riders in queue for sending to either Russia or celts.

:goodjob: barbslinger. yep, i thought that the americans and russians would have a ton of swords! well, that's better than a ton of knights :) celtic lands look nice for our cav, but we'll probably need to land with an army there as well or we'll get chewed up. no reason to give in to demands from anybody at this point.

How juicy. So we're at war with the Celts and Russia. Sounds like fun. I'll download this tonight, but probably won't be able to start until tomorrow night.
:hammer:

Got it.
